TitanFall needs RANKED PLAYLIST

While I'd like to see more Competitive Ranked playlists, based on TrueSkill, in all FPS's games, there is a huge problem with that. That problem is simply this: TrueSkill and Ranked playlists work well with Arena shooters not twitch shooters and especially
shooters with xp based loadout systems.

At it's core Titanfall is a twitch based shooter WITH a xp based unlock loadout system. Any ranked playlist would suffer tremendously from the core design of Titanfall. How would it be balanced properly? How would skill factor in to the match making, let
alone how would skill be defined? Would it be off k/d? Nope, to easy to manipulate in twitch shooters. On gen level? Nope, that is just time played. Off win/loss? Nope, again, easily manipulated due the already bad match making and the players having the ability
to jump on to whatever servers they wish; and it doesn't even account for full parties being paired up against randoms.

For proper competitive, skill based, ranked playlists to be viable Titanfall would have to change it's core gameplay and mechanics. I suspect that is rather more work than Respawn is willing to put into Titanfall just to give players ranked match making.
Then again, if they do give us ranked playlists in Titanfall, without changing the core mechanics, those playlists and ranks will be beyond an absolute joke.

 

It would be win/loss IN the competitive system where the players have no control over who they play...

its not that difficult and its been done before...i see your point kind of but its not that difficult to determine skill. Start everyone at 0 regardless of anything thats happend so far, and see how they fair in the "competitve" playlist...wins move you
up, losses move you down...Madden has a decent ranking system that does just that.

 

competitive playlist could feature a limited selection of burn cards and give all players a "level 50" status to allow all gun/titan unlocks...

 

Well for any competitive playlist any random event, feature or action has to be removed. So no burn cards what so ever as they unbalance the sandbox off the rip. Proper competitive settings must be equal starts for everyone with equal access to all items.
I'd go one farther and say those have to be on map as pick ups. Those promote emergent game play and make map movement and map control important.

Trust me, I get, and share, your desire for competitive ranked playlists Ant. I've been missing that in modern shooters since Halo 3's decline. Twitch shooters and xp based load out games have become the big thing and until a dev studio makes the next great
arena shooter those of us wanting that competitive feel are left wanting.

 

I agree, and i understand what you're saying. But idk if this game needs to be an all out 100% MLG style kind of game.

Though, I really like the idea of burn cards on the maps that activate when picked up. That would be awesome actually...like the OS in halo.

Idk...the possibilites are there.. and even if it isnt so structured...just a place where gamers that play to win can search for fun, competitive matches would be great.

 

I wouldn't mind seeing some Titanfall tournaments personally. I'm a bit of an advocate of competitive Big Team in Halo tbh but it just never has taken off because people get all out of sorts when the settings aren't completely balanced. You can still have
competition without MLG settings and trash talk.

 

^ 99% of what I have always played in Halo has been BTB. I like the chaotic gameplay with vehicles on the map. That's why I like Halo, BF, and Titanfall.

The best part about Titanfall is the fact that if you are a person that does not want to use the Titans, you don't have to. This game allows you to get in your mech, stay out of it, use it for defense, or do nothing at all with it. Complete freedom with
the mech (titan). That was their smartest decision with this game IMO.

 

I'm more into slightly smaller style gameplay. The chaos leads to a little too much randomness for my liking...as well as lots of deaths to tanks and *** that i just cant stand...but i totally understand why others like it.

For BF, i never play anything but small/med scale stuff...and I honestly dont even like the medium scale all that much...I prefer gun fights....but thats just preference.

I think that the chaos just needs to be controlled a bit more in ranked gameplay, but I think the way they have titanfall set up with the titans being the only "vehicle" is just fine.

They did a great job with this game, i agree. The maps are also very well made, and are just the right size for pilots and titans

 

Why not add a ranked playlist, or some other hardcore type list? I think Titanfall is the kind of game that can be and FPS for pretty much everyone. There is no need to alienate the casual or hardcore gamer. Face it, we are only playing the beta really,
even though we already bought it. The game will change and evolve.
