  1. time restrictions on parent account

I think I've seen the question asked elsewhere but didn't see one with an answer. My son has used my xbox one account (the only account set up on the xbox) for the past couple of years and I know that I can't transfer game progress if I set up a new child
account. In the perfect world I'd set up a new child account and transfer progress, but since I can't do that I'd like to know if there is a way to set up time restrictions on the main parent account? This
has to be a common issue for parents and would greaaaaatly appreciate any help with it.

    :)

    time restrictions on parent account

Any idea if microsoft is working on the ability to transfer game progress between accounts?
I don't think that this will ever happen (again), as they specifically changed the savegame behavior in 2005, when people started sharing and exchanging savegames, and rapidly unlock achievements or finishing games without actually playing them. So they
blocked the possibility of transferring savegames and game progress to other accounts.

So the chances of that function to ever come back are pretty slim, I'm afraid.

There also was a suggestion on the
    Xboxideas Uservoice suggestion board
, where people wanted to move their children's account from their parent email to the child's own account.

But that suggestion was deleted. 😢

Thanks for the response. Not what I was hoping for, but had a feeling that was going to be the answer. Any idea if microsoft is working on the ability to transfer game progress between accounts?

    time restrictions on parent account

The problem with this is: Since your account is an adult account, even if you could put time restrictions on that, your kid using the account would be regarded as an adult thanks to the adult account, and the kid could just go to the account settings themselves
    and revert the changes.

That's why child accounts can't make such settings and require a separate adult account to do it.

Let's make a real world analogy:

You as a parent could go to a bank and tell the cashier that your kid has a "child" account at their bank, and you want to limit the ability to withdraw money to 100$ per month.

Since the kid is unable to sign contracts and stuff, if the kid goes to the bank and says "I want the 100$ limit lifted because I want to buy Disneyland!", the cashier will say "Sorry kid, due to your age you can't make or change contracts. Get your parent
    here to lift the limit."

If you as an adult go to the bank and say "I want to limit my spending to 100$ per month", and a few days later come back and say "I as an adult want to buy a boat, a house and a new car, so lift my 100$ spending limit", the bank will comply as you are the
    adult.

So unfortunately, you can either leave the kid unable to be restricted, or create a new child account where the kid can then be restricted, but loses their game progress.

Also be aware: The older the kid gets, the more they want their own account. And the more YOU want them to have their own account, as the older kid probably then could see your emails and use other Microsoft Account services on your account.

So personally, I can only recommend to create a new account for the kid, and have them replay all the fun games again. With time restrictions, if needed.

    time restrictions on parent account

    Hi there Lemon,

Thanks for reaching out here in Xbox Forums. I understand there is an issue with setting up a family for the Xbox one profile. I recommend to try the following steps:

    • Visit Account.live.com > Create a new Microsoft Account (this will be the adult profile)
    • Review the following article: Add members to your family group
    • Review the following article: Set up screen time limits for your child
Give this a try and let us know the results.
