Thumbnails need to be moderated better.

Every single year around Halloween (and around any Friday the 13ths that occur that year), the many different tabs of my Dashboard become a very unsafe place for my children.

Unfailingly, at some point, you guys decide that 'Thriller' needs to be advertised. I have no problem with that. What angers me is that you choose a thumbnail of Mr. Jackson's werewolf transformation scene, usually somewhere mid-transformation (which I could
argue is an even more frightening visage than when he's fully-transformed).

This thumbnail frightens both of my children every time it's there. And I'm never prepared for it either. I always forget it's going to show up at some point in the year and I'm tired of it scarring my kids.

Please, if you want to advertise 'Thriller', fine by me. But why can't you use a more appropriate thumbnail image?

Indeed. it's a moderated forum. That means your posts need to be approved to be shown.

 

Are your children using child accounts, or are they on adult ones?

 

It doesn't really matter. I could be on my own account and I may pass by it. If my kids are around, the stars will align and at least one of them is guaranteed to notice it, no matter how quickly I bumper away to a different tab.

One time last year, it was on both the Music and Apps tabs, so I whisked us away from it only to run into it one more time again.

Imagery is very powerful, and can have a lasting effect on children. My kids have nightmares because Xbox can't pick a suitable thumbnail for 'Spooky Videos'.

 

It does make a difference, if they are on child accounts there are many options available to remove unwanted things from their view.

If you choose to allow them access to view your account or allow them to use your account then the responsibility is entirely yours.

Microsoft is powerless to help if you ignore their child friendly options.

 

We have one system and it's in the main room of the house. The kids don't play it so there are no child accounts. It's not my "choice" to let them see my adult account. That's just the only account we have. It's the one we watch Netflix with, so it's the
one we're using 99% of the time. We're lower-middle-class. We're the reality of America. This is where the majority of Microsoft's gaming business comes from in the U.S. Can you understand that?

And I'd also like to go on the record and say that the adult account has never been a problem any other time. I notice you're going to great lengths to play up the "adult" vs child thing here, but it's not like a regular Live Dashboard is showing all sorts
of inappropriate stuff all the time. Far from it.

I'm coming in with my first complaint ever, and I'm immediately met with "blame the victim" strategies and ludicrous statements that start with laughable strings of words like "Microsoft is powerless..." Right. Tell you what - if you truly believe that,
I've got some land in Oklahoma I'd like to sell you.

 

You are not the victim, you are to blame for allowing your children access to such images.

Microsoft put parental options in place,you have chosen not to use them, so yes microsoft is powerless to help you any further.

Tell me this, say you put your kids to bed and you and your wife sit down to watch a scary movie on netflix...

If one of your kids happen to walk back into the room and see a scary image, whos fault is it???

Do you write to netflix, the actors in the film, maybe even hollywood???

 

Go to your account settings,
account.xbox.com/Settings, and set Programming to recieve only family content.

That way your dashboard is only going to show family appropriate content.
