Thrown out of Xbox Fitness mid-workout

Today's workout was not so great. Three minutes in to a ten minute workout the game just closed on me. No warning signs, it instantly brought me to Xbox home as if someone pressed the home button on the controller. But both my controllers weren't touched
and when I selected Xbox Fitness again it started the whole game from the beginning as if I never started the workout. A little grumpy I started the same workout again from the beginning and this time it finished the whole workout without any problem.

Not sure if this could have caused it, but this was the first workout I did since the March system update.

    Some details...

    • Workout: Fat Fighting Skills and Drills (Ultimate Boot Camp)
    • Point it failed: A little before the three minute mark (think that is just before transitioning to jumping jacks)
    • Time it happened: Around 10:20am GMT
    • My Location: Netherlands. My console was bought from the German Amazon and my account location is set to Ireland. Yes I imported my Xbox One and understand that means not getting any kind of official support, that is fine. I figured it would still be a
good thing to report it since these issues are probably not related to importing.
    • Internet: 100/100Mbit Fiber. The Xbox is wired (cat6). Xbox diagnostics show around 80/80Mbit, 0 packet loss, and open NAT.
I have been doing Xbox Fitness every mon-fri for about 2 months now. Only missed a few of those days. This week was starting to look promising since I didn't get any 'Insufficient Bandwidth' or 'Internet Connection Error' messages which I have been suffering
from despite having very decent internet. But there it is, an error on the last workout of the week Thrown out of Xbox Fitness mid-workout :(. I would really like Xbox Fitness to succeed, it is great as long as it doesn't throw errors.

    :)

    Xbox Fitness Crashes Mid Workout

Just bought my XBOX One in India, tried the XBOX fitness workouts this morning, my workout must have frozen/hung at least 5 times in half an hour, the fix was to push the A button twice to resume the video, BUT, what a pain. I have a superfast internet connection
FYI...so this is streaming stuff is unacceptable.

I hope Microsoft lets people DOWNLOAD these workout videos to the XBOX One Hard Disk and run them locally. ELSE, we're much better off buying DVD's of Jilian Michales and others and watching them off a USB Stick.

Come on Microsoft, please get your act together here.

    Very Disappointed.

Let me try this again since my previous reply seems to have gone missing...

This problem occurred again today. I was somewhere near half way done with the Ultimate Total Body Training when again without warning the game threw me back to the dashboard. Lost my progress of that workout. Same story as the post above really.

    • Workout: Ultimate Total Body Training
    • Point it failed: Somewhere near halfway I think. Where you get in plank position and move your feet to your arm followed by raising your arm.
    • Time it happened: 10:55am GMT
    • Location/Internet: Still same as in OP

    Xbox support on twitter suggested
    support.xbox.com/.../power-cycle-console

I am not sure if it will make any difference since my Xbox One is regularly disconnected from power anyway and I am not using the Instant-On power mode. But we'll see. So far the problem occurred 10 days apart, so hard to tell if anything I try worked.

  6. I had this happen before the March update (and I got that early as I was a beta tester).

It appears to be totally random to me. I have only had it happen once but it was very frustrating and about half way through a 35 minute workout. I started again from just before the point it dumped me but of course you get no credit for anything before
the crash unless it was a milestone achievement you hit before then.

The insufficient bandwidth/buffering issues appear to be better for me but can coincide with peak times you might expect people to be online. I don't know if it is my cable connection taking a hit because of neighbors (tests indicate no) or if it is too
much demand at the Microsoft server end which dishes out the streamed video (more likely but MS always say no when I bring this up).

Well, it happened again for me. This time at the very end of a workout, at the point where it was supposed to show the screen with the scores.

    Already tried
    support.xbox.com/.../power-cycle-console
and also uninstalled and re-installed Xbox Fitness.

It's a consistent issue for me too. I've contacted xbox support repeatedly and they are unable to solve it.

I think we just have to put it down to a developer issue, and hope they sort it eventually.

  9. I have had this happen twice. Both during the Jillian Micheals kickboxing program, at random times. I would really like this fixed. This is after the March update on March 20th, about 3:00 pm. I live in the US.

Well, I almost made it to 2 weeks straight without problems... until today.

For the first time I decided to try the longer workouts. Up to now I only did 10 minute workouts, recently 2 of those in a row every weekday. Today I started Mossa Fight 1. I had about 10 minutes left in the 35 minute workout when it decided there was a
"problem" with my internet connection. The classic 'Internet Connection Error - Xbox Fitness could not connect to the internet' error which I haven't seen since the dashboarding started. Like usual, at the same time other devices in the house had no internet
problems. I tried resuming and skipping forward to the next exercise a few times but it would only left me stream 1 or 2 seconds each time before erroring again. Finally I just skipped all the way to the end and managed to get to get 4 stars and a bunch of
stamps. It would have been a nice 5 stars rating if I got to finish it Thrown out of Xbox Fitness mid-workout :(.

I was starting to get optimistic even thinking the problems may have been solved, I guess I was wrong. On the positive side: what I did get to do from Mossa Fight is a big change from the 10 minute workouts. Was pleasantly surprised at the overall higher
quality. 3 Instructors showing various intensities for the same exercise, music synced to the workout, the crowd which gives extra energy. The workout was recorded exclusively for Xbox Fitness and it does feel like that. I do want to do this workout again...
but Xbox Fitness team... you got to acknowledge these network problems and come out with a fix.

  11. Today was one of the few days I could do 2 workouts without any issues. One was a 10 mins Cardio and the other was the Insanity Pure Cardio. It was VERY rare to be able to do a full Insanity without either the internet connection lost issue or being kicked
    out to the home screen.

I live in Brazil and I have 2 different ISPs with 5mb and 10mb with different routers. One of them has an open NAT and the there has moderate. The same behaviour happens on both ISPs so I am confident its not an ISP issue (the fact that it happens to people
all over the world support this as well of course...).

I also tried using an US DNS with no consistent success.

That said, what I did today was to leave the power chord off for a min before turning the console on and starting the game... I've heard that people did that and still got issues but I wonder if we need to do that every time we will use the game which is
what I do from now on...

This is, of course, ridiculous, but maybe can help pinpointing the root cause. (in case there is anybody at Microsoft concerned with fixing it...)

    rgds!

thing in the morning after turning the power back on. This should have the same effect as unplugging the power cord for a few minutes. I still run in to problems like described in this thread.

Today was another Xbox Fitness error day.

    • Time: ~9:35am GMT (March 14th)
    • When: A little over 10 minutes in on Mossa Groove
    • Error: Internet Connection Error. Xbox Fitness cannot connect to the internet at this time. Please check your internet connection and try again.
    • My Location: Netherlands. My console was bought from the German Amazon and my account location is set to Ireland. Yes I imported my Xbox One and understand that means not getting any kind of official support, that is fine. I figured it would still be a

    • Internet: 100/100Mbit Fiber. The Xbox is wired (cat6). Xbox diagnostics show around 80/80Mbit, 0 packet loss, and open NAT.
After retrying a few times and getting the same error I just gave up. Only 10 minutes of workout today it is Thrown out of Xbox Fitness mid-workout :(. I'll try a new network cable just so we can rule that one out too.

I am starting to wonder if a high ping may be the cause of this. These photos were taken right after quitting Xbox Fitness because of the internet connection error.

    Imgur

As you can see I am connected to the internet with plenty of bandwidth. Just my ping is on the high side and I am not really sure why. Despite physically being in the Netherlands with an Irish account. Pings over 100ms usually only happen for me to servers
outside of the EU. I just hope it gets better once Xbox One officially gets released in the Netherlands. But regardless of what the reason of the high ping is, it shouldn't really matter for streaming video like Xbox Fitness does. Multiplayer games would be
another story. But when streaming video, as long as my connection is stable, all a high ping means is that buffering the video at the beginning takes a fraction of a second longer. *But*, if Xbox Fitness has been hardcoded to artificially throw an error if
ping gets above let's say 150ms that may explain why I am getting errors.

People who also get these errors (in particular the Internet Connection Error): What does your ping and bandwidth look like right after the error. You can test it in Settings -> Network -> Detailed network statistics.

Thrown out of Xbox Fitness mid-workout

Well, between now and the last time I posted I've tried a workout 5 times. All of those were plagued by either Internet Connection Error or a brief black screen followed by the gave dashboarding back to Xbox home. Like I mentioned in the last post, I've
triend another network cable, that didn't help either.

One thing I did notice: When an Internet Connection Error happens and immediately choose Try Again it usually results in another error just a few seconds later. But, when I choose Try Again, press play, and then immediately pause it again and wait while
I catch my breath and drink some water it seems to be more stable after that. It enabled me to finish the workout at least two times where I otherwise would have just given up for the day. Of course this isn't any kind of solution, but at least you don't loose
    progress/stamps.

@XboxFitness on Twitter has reached out to me to be part of their Early Update Release Program. I guess it is the same kind of thing as those who receive the Xbox system updates early, but this one is specifically for Xbox Fitness. Today I received the first
early Xbox Fitness update. I did a 39 minute Fire Starter workout without any problem, while in the 5 days before that I couldn't seem to get through any workout without an error. But let's not be too optimistic just yet. I don't know if this update actually
contains any stability fixes and in the past I have had a week of error-free workouts too before the issues returned again. We'll see.

I've asked the people managing the Early Update Release Program for a list of changes/fixes and when the update will be rolled out to the public.

In regard to my last post, I got an email back from someone on the Xbox Fintess Early Update Release Program:

"I am unable to share the full list of what this update contains, but a lot of the focus for the update is stability. We are aware that people are being bumped back to the dashboard mid-workout and that this is frustrating, especially when stamps are
earned and achievements are unlocked. We’re hoping this update will reduce the likelihood of that happening for all Xbox Fitness users.

This update will likely go out to the public within the next few days, but again, this is an estimate."

Let's hope for the best Thrown out of Xbox Fitness mid-workout :).

(Mods: I feel bad about triple-posting. I would just have added this to my last post if I could still edit it. Seems you can't after some time.)

  15. Thanks for the update. That's the first official acknowledgment of the issue I've seen. Looking forward to the update.
