Threatened with report?

Hi guys =)

Not sure if this is the right place for this (not used the forums before) but was hoping the community could help explain something about the report system?

Basically, I was playing AC4's multiplayer earlier today and after a match I was sent a pretty strongly worded message about 'being one of the biggest cheaters he'd ever come across' and that I'd been reported for cheating. I was a little confused as, at
least to my knowledge, I hadn't cheated, but I'm just worried about what action will be taken over this? Will the report just be taken on face value, or do they investigate preceding gameplay, messages etc before considering a penalty?

Regardless I sent a message apologising and asking for some clarification on what I'd done, but he never responded, so what do you guys think? Can I just disregard this as a case of frustration on his part? As far as I know I've never been reported before,
and I'd hate to be punished for something I didn't do because someone got angry at a game =/

Unfortunately support informed you wrong as the Enforcement Team is strictly contacted via Live when you file a complaint. Also, it is against forum rules to post offending gamertags (Also known as “naming and shaming”). The best course of action you
can take is to File a Complaint, Block
Communications with the Player, Mute the Player , and Submit a Player Review and Avoid the Player for each
player you feel is violating the Code of Conduct or Terms of Use. Typically when someone has stated they are
going to “hack” you they are typically just going to kick you offline via DoS or DDoS. If this happens you should also contact your Internet Service Provider
to report the attack and get assigned a new IP address to at least get your back online. Just make sure not to send him a message after you block him as it will unblock this player. The enforcement team will eventually catch up to the player(s) and they will
take the appropriate action against the individual(s). Just be patient and give it some time as a console ban or permanent suspension is a serious matter and there is no going back, so the Enforcement Team wants to ensure they are 100% certain in their investigation
before taking any action. Hope this helps.

if you have received a message

then as the other posting states, file a complaint against the gamertag that sent the message.

this is the only way for this to get passed up to the enforcement team.

 

All the reports that are filed get reviewed. If you've been cheating then you have every reason to be worried, otherwise just game on. Cheaters stick out like a sore thumb and it will be very easy for the enforcement team to make the right decision.

 

Thanks for the response =) I'll just ignore it and carry on then, although I will submit a negative review so we aren't matchmaked in the future. Considered filing a complaint for abuse (the message was somewhat distressing) but that just seemed petty =P

 

Player review will definitely help your situation. Filing a complaint is completely up to you, I normally just let them fly and don't both spending the time to file a complaint.

 

Cheaters are banned but obviously there are hundreds, sometimes probably thousands of reports a day that all need to be reviewed and proven before any action is taken. I'm not going to jump to Microsoft's defence but if you are in any doubt, check the ban
appeal forum, it's constantly filling up with posts from people who "didn't do it" or claim they know nothing about it and those are just the people that know about and are brave enough to appeal on the forum.

 

Yeah the above posters are spot on and I have had similar messages like this myself in the past. It's just the result of some big hot shot that got slapped by someone better then him / her. They vent by reporting or hitting a negative review on you. If you
have done nothing wrong then you have absolutely nothing to be worried about. Just move on and enjoy your games

 

Sounds like someone was just upset that they got beat. I wouldn't worry about it too much considering the fact that MS can't even do a decent job of getting rid of real hackers/cheaters.

I'm still loving the selective censorship there too, Cloud.

Ahh, I assumed it was Cloud since he was the one to post in here. There was nothing "inaccurate" about my post. That's interesting to know that you guys are deleting "inaccurate" posts now though considering the amount of misinformation I see around here
that's never deleted.

 

One, never assume anything. Two, there is a difference between misinformation and opinion.
