Thought it was a 500GB hard drive

Since he new update and you can now see you available hard drive space, it says I have 283.7 GB left with only 22% used, and after adding all 4 of my games I have on the console it only goes up to just over 350 GB. So where is my other 150GB of data space
as that is a huge loss compared to to 500GB hard drive I was sold with the console?.

Xbox 360 won't boot with USB external hard drive connected

This hard drive is new; just purchased about 3 days ago.

Yeah, I thought it might be because of some sort of built-in limitation, but the 500GB drive works just fine, as does my 32GB flash drive. And the 500GB hard drive has about 300GB of videos that the Xbox 360 has no problems reading and playing.

Safe to rest a external hardrive on top of the Xbox One?

Can you use any external hard drive? I only ask because I got a 500gb hard drive with a Zgemma box which is unused and an extra 500gb of space wouldn't go amiss.

It is...But consider the apps, the 3 OS's, etc... They take up space also... Shocking though IMO a system that wants to push digital content can't take much down its throat without deleting things. They set this up for a external hard drive that's for sure.
Hope they get it out quickly!!

Other space is occupied by the OS, space reserved for receiving updates and making backups while updating and by apps.

Also notice that calculations are based on 1gb is 1024mb and the marketing is using 1gb is 1000mb (so the drive is 478gb of total in calculations on screen)
