What if the hard rive fails? I guess there is that to consider.
There's lots of things that could fail - The service, the servers, the network, the download, the file, the console, an update/patch, the disc, etc. The point
is anything can fail at any point - we'll never actually know - but I'm going to take that risk and enjoy my purchase for as long as I can. It doesn't have to last forever - just as long as I get my money's worth out of it. If that happens, then I will be
fine. Those of you who want to do the same with physical and call yourselves collectors, more power to you, but history has shown me that I personally will not play a game after about 5 years and certainly not 10 (most games, physical or digital, don't even
last that long). If you want physical in order to sell it, then you'll almost never get your money's worth, so to me again, it's not really worth it.

That being said, I'm surprised this thread made it over 101+ replies, so thanks (not that it actually means anything)! Granted, most of you kind-sorta skirted around the actual topic a bit (but weren't necessarily off-topic)...

I like discs. Nothing like cracking open a new game and sliding it in the drive.

3. I don't like discs. Nothing like finding scratches or broken discs, taking up shelf space and collecting dust, and possibly not finding them at all (due to loss or theft). Besides, with 1 physical object interacting with another, you increase the chances
of something mechanical going wrong to either the console or the disc. You essentially have to babysit 2 objects instead of 1. Those who choose physical discs - I have a question for you ;)

Chances of getting badly scratched discs now are slimmer though with them being on Blu Ray. I'm yet to see a disc in bad condition bought second hand.

If you scratch disc's that badly... Or lose them... There's bigger issues as to why.

I've never scratched or lost a disc in all my years of gaming.

Just sayin.

6. Apparently you don't get blu-ray movies from your local library or from services like Netflix or Redbox then... My family gets scratched discs at least once a month...

If they where £10-£15 cheaper than disc copy's so where talking £35 per game here. Then well it depends on the game really. If it is something I am hyped about and I know I will play it for a long time then yes I would.

Now what Microsoft/Sony need to do is do what Steam do and that is allow 3rd party stores sell digital download codes for Xbox One/PS4. Look at websites like cdkeys or getgamesgo ect. You can by brand new PC games for much cheaper than you get them on steam.
For example Murdered Soul Suspect. On Steam they want £30 for it. On CDkeys £13. Sure the publishers won't get as much money as they want on the sale. But at least they would be eliminating the second hand market.

Blue ray disks are tougher than dvd's and less prone to scratching but still can get scratched under extreme conditions. Ebgames asked if I wanted scratch protection for my Xbox One games I laughed and said no thankyou.

@ GG

We here in Australia don't have the rental services the US has... We just have the likes of Blockbuster etc video stores... Some people rent, but it's not that popular in the mainstream due to hefty pricing and time restrictions as to how long you can loan
them for...

Plus I buy all my games... And I'm the only one who uses them... If they get scratched or lost, I've only myself to blame. I've got OG Xbox games in pristine condition.

Who knows, maybe one day in the future someone might want "those old archaic" bits of plastic as a collectible.

(maniacally rubs hands together while laughing like Dr Evil... Muhahah, muhahaha)

Everyone talks about what happens if the servers go down or what happens if your hard drives crash.

Much more apt to happen is you lose your disc, your brother uses the disc as a Frisbee or as a weed cleaning surface, it cracks, you get the dirty disc error, and on and on and on.

I have 3 games on disc and probably 10 digital. I have one game with problems..bf4 on disc..... its dirty and doesn't always want to play.

People are conditioned to accept common day difficulties but freak out over lesser potential possible future problems

11. I'd still take a physical copy unless it was a game I didn't see much of a cute for or was costing near-nothing. Digital is hard to keep track of what you have in my eyes (although it is all in one simple menu, I understand that) and a physical copy makes
you really feel like you've bought something.

This is the same reason I refuse to buy music in iTunes (I always get a physical copy). When it comes to something I've paid for, I want to know it's there. Even my golden lancer code for Gears 2, although it's used and the code is redundant, I still have
the code in the packaging.

The reason I choose physical over digital is because of the price tag, but if digital games were $10-15 cheaper I would go digital. Never again will I have to change a disc!!! :)

What if the hard rive fails? I guess there is that to consider.

Though with the way games are going nowadays you need updates to even play them in playable state.
