Those who choose physical discs - I have a question for you

The 50k was just an example. Whatever jobs that are replacing my girlfriends store manager job are not going to replace that '50k' job....and if they are even in the same pay grade it will require a 4 year degree+. Which in turn makes that 50k job less
valuable after the 100k in student loans and 4 years of your life spent acquiring that degree.

My aunt lost her job of 25 years, my dad lost his job of 15 years and I got a pay cut of $6 an hour all in the past 2 years. Throw in the fact that my girlfriend might be out of a job in the next two months and I am not as optimistic as you. Yes, we will
find a way to survive as everyone must do. But that doesn't mean we will have the same standard of living. The internet was suppose to create jobs...all I see is people losing their jobs. At least minimum wage is going up, we have unemployment benefits
and mcdonalds employees are fighting for $15 an hour. We will adapt.

I really hope you are right about all of this. Because from where I stand it's not looking good.

 

Important goods are not fun to shop for! Lol. Would have to stop going to the store with the girlfriend if I couldn't slip away to the video/game section. Why are you and the digital pushers trying to ruin my enjoyment Burnin TODI? ;-)

The reality of it? Discs are about useless now as they almost all require huge patches to make them work. In order to get more people on the digital bandwagon, they definitely have to improve the internet structure and get rid of caps.

You mention digital books. I would just stop reading if that was the future...

If I am to give up my rights (property, use, etc) then the price better be seriously (and I mean WAY) lower than physical or the digital item better be the only form available. I have near zero interest in digital because digital copies of games are worth
zero (or near zero) at the moment. Im am actually somewhat upset that people pay full retail for digital copies because they are giving up so many rights for no real benefit to themselves. But to each your own.

@CODukes4. A lot of people have it hard right now. Companies large and small go out of business all the time and always have. People get fired and laid off constantly. The internet is not the cause per se. Adaptation is the key to survival and keeping
your current standard of living (and you state you will adapt). Opportunities exist when you seek them out, they dont exist if you do nothing but ask people on the very thing you are blaming (ie the net) where your next jobs are going to come from. If this
sounds harsh, I dont mean it to be, but life changes for everyone. Stay positive!

 

It would be tempting and more convenient than having to drive over to the next town which would cos $10-15 in petrol to get there.

You don't have to go to college to make good money. Way too many GameStops right next to one another by me and im sure its the same elsewhere. McDonalds employees will not see $15 an hour in my life time. McDonalds is a place for entering and exiting the
work force, not existing in it.

 

Well after 7 pages of opinions let's get a few things straight. Not everyone is going digital, a small portion is sure , but the people who own 100's, 1000's of games certainly aren't. Also, midnight releases get more people then ever. No post offices are
still operating, there a more online purchases then ever that need to get from A to B. The op wanted to know if peoples opinion would change if Digi was cheaper, that is all.

 

Jesus...this turned into a economics lesson and a half.

I'll just say that gas is too expensive in my Hummer and it takes too much electricity to cool my 4 story mansion and the water isn't wet enough when me and my friends go out on one of my 4 boats.

Sure... But I guess some of us elaborated as to why due to the obvious "why" that probably would have come if we'd simply answered: Yes/No.

Ok... In short my answer to GG is NO... Not unless it was like Steam pricing with "Humble Bundles" etc... And even then it would only be for certain games.

Not sure where one can say "a small portion" is going digital...have there been factual numbers released recently?

 

I find it hilarious that people are saying you can't play once the servers go down. You can't play if the servers go down and you've deleted your copy off the HDD though. Maybe do what I did and buy a 4TB external and call it a day?

 

What if the hard rive fails? I guess there is that to consider.

Though with the way games are going nowadays you need updates to even play them in playable state.

 

The reason I choose physical over digital is because of the price tag, but if digital games were $10-15 cheaper I would go digital. Never again will I have to change a disc!!!
