This location isn't set up for installing games

I had installed forza horizon 5 and cricket 2022 on my pc, both worked great for the first week or so. Now I'm unable to open the games at all. I keep getting the error "This app can't open. Check the Store for more info". I googled the error and it said to delete the cached files of the games. I did so and now I can't see forza 5 installed on the xbox app, even though all the game files are present in the location where the game was installed. Now when I try to install Forza5 again I get the error " This location isn't setup for installing games". Both my C drive and Ddrive options have the yellow sign on them and it provides a link to setting and change the storage option. I've tried changing them and it still doesn't work. I tried the following method by steeledwand7664 as well "https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ass-beta/363874c5-5b93-4331-b632-ce43e325a080"and it still doesn't work. Please help me here.

Please try creating a new NTFS partition in that case described above
Could be the partition itself, as was used on another PC. Is causing issues

If the hard drive uses a different format file as NTFS, you may need to do it.

The other option if available is create a new NTFS partition using the free space in case you didn't want to lose the games in there (by the way, if those games are from the Xbox app on the other PC, the other PC is not going to recognize them)

In case you want to try creating a new NTFS partition :
    https://www.diskpart.com/articles/partition-ntf...

After that, select the new partition as where new content is going to be installed via Windows settings > System > Storage

Thank you. I was having the same problem, on a fresh reinstall of Windows 10, and once I followed your steps, it turned out Gaming Services wasn't installed. It's all working now.

Hi and thanks for reaching Microsoft Xbox gamer's community. My name is Josef.

I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft Xbox user like you.

Hope you're doing great today despite this Crisis

    Please answer the following questions:

Is this happening on Windows 10 or 11?

Besides the troubleshooting steps provided in the other thread and deleting the cached files, did you tried something else or that's all?

In that way I can advise you different thing or how to proceed?

By the way, how did you exactly deleted cached files?

In the meantime, try Reinstalling Gaming Services using powershell command

Press Windows key + X and then select Windows PowerShell (Admin).

Type or copy / past the following command and press Enter:

    Get-AppxPackage *gamingservices* -allusers | remove-appxpackage -allusers

Restart the PC and Open the Xbox application.

A blue notification with the following message is going to appear at the bottom:

"This app needs an extra component. Gaming Services is needed for playing some games. Administrator approval required. Install"

Select Install to reinstall Gaming Services, once installed check again

If you try searching the games directly (press Windows key and start typing)
Are you able to see them or not at all?

Try reinstalling gaming services in this way:

Press Windows key + X and then select Windows PowerShell (Admin).

Type or copy / past the following command and press Enter:

    start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN

Install the app on that page, and then select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.

Restart your PC and check the Xbox app again
