This gamertag is taken or isn't allowed. Try a different one

I apologize but it seems like there is an account that has the Gamertag already, if it's your old account, you need to change it into something else first for it to be available.

If you have already changed it, it should be available but please validate because the Gamertag may be claimed by someone else already.

But the gamertag that I want to change is my old gamertag. I change my old gamertag on 2 August 2020. I used that old gamertag when I create my Xbox account. At that time, the system allow me to use that gamertag. But when I want to change it back, the system don't allow me to use it. Why is this like that?

I'm sorry to hear that. Please don't get me wrong but I'd like to be honest with you that there are certain reasons as to why it isn't allowed and it's the enforcement team who decides. Most likely, a letter combination is not allowed or it's a gamertag of a banned account. I hope you understand.

First, I'm just a gamer like you and I don't work for Microsoft. This is the community where gamers assist gamers. Secondly, I'm sure that there's no way around this and support can't assist with this either. I speak from experience. Once the system says the tag is inappropriate, you just have to edit it or choose a different one completely
