This Gamertag does not exist on Xbox Live

Hello i am trying to obtain a gamertag and i keep getting this gamertag does not exist on Xbox Live message i was guaranteed i could obtain the gamertag i was told to come here. I have already troubleshooted my profile.

Can't add a gamertag , nor can i change the gamertag to that name

The gamertag does not exist on xbox live. This does not mean that it may not be in use either for Zune or internally by Microsoft.

Ok, so yesterday i found an original gamertag that i would loved to use as my gamertag (change my gamertag) .The first thing i did was to look if the account was not taked yet so i went on the ''add friend'' and added the gamertag in question. I was so happy
to see that the gamertag ''does not exist on xbox live''.

Today i went to buy some microsoft points and redeem the code on xbox live and i was about to change my gamertag but at the moment when i clicked on ''change gamertag'' in the ''change gamertag menu'' , it said that the gamertag was taken !

So i looked in my friend list and clicked on the ''add friend'' and then i tryed to add the gamertag that i was looking for but it said that '' the gamertag does not exist on xbox live''!

I dont know what im supposed to do?? This gamertag use to exist but on xbox live but dont exist on xbox live?! Where is the logic ? XD

If this account was used before and got banned , why they dont just remove it to let other people to use it??!!

 

Chances are if it won't let you claim that tag, it is taken by someone else or set to expired/inactive. But, it will be a long time before the tag is available if it is expired/inactive. But, out of curiosity, what is that tag?

 

Its not taken by someone Microsoft support confirms its not taken. The gamertag has been this way 5 years. Almost 6.

 

Gamertags are used on other services,not just xbox live so it could be being used somewhere else.
