"This game requires an update, but the update could not be found.

My xbox 360 works flawlessly on everything but GTA5. It will load and start the game and even play if for a short while. Then, it flashes "This game requires an update, but an update could not be found." and takes me back to console. The game will start
right back up as if nothing ever happened until a few minutes later, same thing. The game disc is fine and will work flawlessly on other units. I'm perplexed. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the update problems, what troubleshooting steps have you tried with this problem? Have you ever been able to play the game online without any issues?

 

I've been playing the game using the same disc regularly for a couple years with no problem on this console and another one at work. (firefighter =] ) I've done the usual steps of unplugging the console for 5 minutes, deleting cache, deleting profile (not
game contents) and nothing has changed the symptoms. I thought it might have been a heat issue and have changed the location of the console to a well ventilated space in a room kept at 68*F (or 20*C) and a small fan blowing over the top of it in a way to
pull heat away instead of backing it up inside. I even took the console to work with me and connected to the internet there to see if it were my own internet connection causing issue, same results. What perplexes me so much is that it will connect and play
normal immediately after I load it back up. When online, the error page flashes too fast to fully read and goes straight to the xbox home dash. When offline in story mode, it actually stays up long enough to read, " This game requires an update, but the
update could not be found. ". I'm guessing both errors say the same thing due to the sentence being what appears to be the same length physically on the display.... but I'm not totally positive. It's aggravating since I'm paying for an online service that
was intended solely for this game and can't utilize it. Oh well, one fortunate thing is it's allowed me to figure out that "Live" has youtube, amazon prime, etc on it that I didn't know existed. lol Thanks for your response and any help. Cheers.

Thanks for the extra info. Let's have you try
deleting and reinstalling GTA V to see if you still get the same error.
