These Xbox forums seriously need a facelift and to be restructured. Needs to be more like PS ...

Fyberball72 beat me to it as I was going to say MS do not make these forums, but they do pay a third party company to do it so it should be better.

Still, I think these forums can be a good source of advertisement. I still like it around here though.

 

I thought the third party web design company that MS chose would have actually made some IMPROVEMENTS. What went wrong? We actually have more problems than before.

 

The forums are bad...really bad. Ive seen better forums made by two guys in their basement who code for lulz. I agree with bstn, they dont want people posting here. Eventually they will shut tye forums down and only leave the support section open.

This forum seems to be based on one used at the old gamesforwindows.com , you can still see the odd trace of it when the forum glitches out.

While this forum is functional at the very least, it pales in comparison to those in use by sites such as Bioware and The Escapist.

You do have to wonder how Microsoft consider this forum software to be acceptable. You can't even quote any posts other than the initial one, you have to do it manually.

 

Yes the lack of easy quoting capabilities is bad and I can't believe 1.5 years has gone by without it being fixed. There are plenty of other issues but I've complained about them before. Doesn't seem to help.

 

The formatting is terrible, the limitations are obvious and painful. I never saw the forums when they where better but it would be difficult to make it any worse. Also, we need an adult section, there are certain words that are not even close to being obscene
that are always bleeped. Maybe what I'm trying to say is, the forums need to be a bit more "international"

I would rather that the Forums become " stable " first before they get a face-lift because without fixing this issue (stability), the face-lift would just end up being " more unstable " than the simplified version that we have now.

It would be cool to see an update, but I honestly doubt it'll ever happen at this point.

The community here really died out the past couple years.

Plus the last few times they have done a major forum update it ended up making it worse and drove more regulars away anyway haha.

Would love to see the gamercards updated to track the X1 stuff though.

The forums in their current state are the overhauled version, they were changed last year to coincide with the launch of XBO. Please don't encourage another change, I've just about got used to the barely functioning mess we have now.

 

I agree with the OP. A bigger issue for me is that the forums are just so slow. Even logging in is slow. The editor is pretty bad, and as mentioned, the layout definitely needs work.

The other Microsoft forums I've used are not particularly good either. They're all kinda slow and have layouts that aren't particularly user friendly. Google's are just as bad too.

So yeah, I would love to see them do a relaunch/redesign with updated gamercards that have full compatibility with 360 and One. They could add extra functionality too, such as button on the gamercard that you can click to add someone as a friend (which the
user could disable if they wanted to).

As for people not using the forums, I think if they were better then more people would use them. Existing users would probably visit a bit more too. Also, there's stuff you can do to bring people in. Get a developer to come and do an AMA/Q&A session, for
example. Run a competition from time to time.

 

Agreeing with the OP; forums are clunky.

 

The only thing it needs for me is "stability" and better maintenance of this site. I frequently see Oh Oh that shouldn't have happened from a site owned by like the biggest software company in the world. Even when I click my profile on the top right of this
site this site keeps trying to sign me out and struggles for 10 seconds, 20 seconds still trying to sign me out, 30 seconds. Have IE11. Sometimes it works though. I have to go to InPrivate mode to successfully view my profile. And note I do tick the keep me
signed in, but for some reason, this site likes to ask me for my password and to sign in almost on a daily bases. And when I try to click on a forum link, it just sends me to the Xbox home page and in the address bar is something like [tag:fbid] like the action
is forbidden.

However if theres one thing that works 99% of the time, it's when you sign in on IE11, the address bar is highlighted green with a padlock.

 

Yeah these forums are ancient but I don't think I would survive another update, at least not a cosmetic one. Things could do with a tweak here and there for sure. I've said it before but an off topic section, I agree, adult rated forum sections in the adult
expected sections (example, Call of Duty Forums should be rated respective of the games age rating, same with GTA and other games ect..) The swear filter needs a revision. The trolls that come need kicking to the curb and there needs to be more engagement.
Xbox One games on the forum cards would be nice too as already mentioned. That's just my opinion ^^
