"There was a problem with the update"

Been trying to set up the xbox one, got to the stage saying 'Its time to update" where you select your wireless connection. It begins updating then crashes and comes up with "there was a problem with the update". Tried over and over nothing will fix it

I still cannot update, the update stops at 10% and quits.

If you buy something new from any store and it fails to work as advertised, you are going to be ticked off. I don't care what it is. I have two X1s sitting under the Xmas tree now. And I should have no reason to think they would not instantly function as
advertised, come Christmas morning.

 

I could be wrong, but the solution might be associated with your "wireless" connection, if in fact you were choosing to update using wi-fi. A wired or ethernet connection means you won't lose any signal strength, so it's entirely possible your wi-fi keeps
dropping out and can't complete the update. Try resetting your console (hold down the power button for ten seconds) or alternatively unplug from the power socket and reconnect before attempting the update. Oh, and make sure you're using a wired connection
next time!

 

As mentioned by BluSwirl, doing a power cycle by holding down the power button on the console for up to 10 seconds (when the console is already on), usually fixes most problems.

Trying a Ethernet cable would be a good option too.

To get more into the specific of the problem, an error code would be needed. So if there is one displayed on the screen, please post it here.

We have some options to fix this, but i will await your answer before proceeding.

We are having the same problem. We used an ethernet cable, unplugged the console, tried doing Suzspoon65's solution and NOTHING is working. The update gets up to 53% and then just stops. There is no error code either, just the basic message, "there was
a problem with the update". We are soooooo frustrated!

 

Since you are not getting an error message, if you have a USB stick and a windows PC at home, then there is an option to download the update on a USB drive and use that to update the Xbox.

Click the Right side image that says "I need to update my console Offline".

See if that works.

It's hard to know how to fix something when no error message is displayed, and so this would be a much faster way for you to get around this problem.

Then if the problem persists after the update (which it shouldn't) then we can see what we can do to get it fixed.
