"There is no controller connected to USB"

I purchased the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter yesterday. Might I add I was extremely pumped and excited because my Astro A40's were no longer going to go to waste. I read the instructions, followed the instructions, and connected everything properly....Until
I hit a roadblock. I couldn't start the controller update because "There is no controller connected to the Xbox through USB"... However, during this process I had removed the batteries and was connected to my xbox one ONLY through a USB cord.....

So, I began my google search to see if anyone else was having this problem. It was hard finding results, but I finally found a submission to the Xbox One support forums with someone having the same problem. There was no Customer Support reply, only more
people who were having similar problems.

I have tried two separate USB cords. I've tried every USB outlet on the console with both cords.I have a plug and play kit (which works) and it connects to my controller and charges my battery, so I know it's not a faulty USB cord.

I powered down my xbox, waited 30 seconds, then started it back up to see if that would work. Also, my controller works fine. I haven't had any problem with it disconnecting or anything, it just won't allow me to update.

I would really just like some help. If anyone has encountered this problem, and has somehow figured out how to fix it or has had the Xbox One support reply to you and solve your problem, please let me know how to fix the issue. Thanks

    :)

Controller disconnects when used to power on xbox console

Actually the problem is not there when controller is connected via USB cable with or without batteries in the controller. Wireless seems to be the issue.

That's weird, that the controller loses contact when you have the batteries inside, while the console is connected to the controller via USB.

Have you checked if there is a Firmware update available for the controller?

Try putting the batteries back in the controller, hooking it up and then updating it while the controller is turned on.

I had batteries in my controller and it was turned on when I updated mine and had no issues.

Without a USB cord plugged in?

I tried it with batteries in the controller and it would stop the update process and say something similar to "Please remove the batteries before updating"

To anyone who has this problem, I found a solution on my own.

    1) With controller connected to USB in the side port, pull the power out of the back of your xbox one.

    2) Count to 30

    3) Pray

    4) Plug the power back into the back of your Xbox

    5) Use your controller to turn the Xbox One on, and you should see on the home screen that your controller is connected to USB.

    6) Plug in your Xbox One headset adapter.

    7) Place your controller on the table, floor, anything stable to where it won't be able to move.

    8) Start the update.

    9) Hope that this helps you.

Xbox 360 controller not working with Xbox Cloud Gaming.

I'm Samy an independent advisor. Welcome to the community. How are you?

This controller does not support xCloud. These are the controllers you can use.

    Official Xbox controllers

Xbox Wireless Controller (Bluetooth or USB connection)

Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 1 (USB connection only)

Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Bluetooth or USB connection)

Xbox Adaptive Controller (Bluetooth or USB connection)

Was the controller connected to the console with a USB cable during the update?

If not, connect the controller to the console via USB cable and try the process again.

When physically connected, it SHOULD power on and connect to the console.

XBox controller disconnects from PC or stops responding

Hi Keith, There are two ways to connect an Xbox controller to a PC: with a USB cable or via Bluetooth.

    Connect with a USB cable

Plug one end of the USB cable into the USB port on your PC.

Plug the other end of the USB cable into the USB port on your Xbox controller.

The controller should automatically connect to your PC.

    Connect via Bluetooth

Make sure your Xbox controller and PC have Bluetooth.
    Activate Bluetooth on your PC.

Press and hold the pairing button on the Xbox controller for 3 seconds.

The controller should appear in the list of Bluetooth devices on your PC.

Select the Xbox controller from the list and click "Connect."

Let me know if the information is still useful.

    Sincerely,
    Marvina.

Controller connects but will not work

I'm attempting to do that now by connecting the controller directly to the xbox using a USB cord but it continues to say that no controller is connected via USB. Very frustrating

Xbox Series X Sync button/synced controller stopped. Sync button must work as I am able to get to BIOS. Sync button wont blink.

If you can use your controller while connected through USB, that means that the wireless connection between your controller and your Xbox is working. Even when connected through USB, the communication between both devices is done wirelessly, with the controller only using power from the USB cable, not data. The controller is paired to your console when connected through USB, so the issue lies on your controller.

Check if the batteries inside of your controller are installed with the correct polarity. If they are, try to replace them with Alkaline batteries and check again.
