The Xbox Transaction Department needs to learn some things.

Sorry, but I feel like I have a right to rant right now. So, I go and buy a $15 card to use to buy a month of gold, get home, redeem it, try buying the gold, and the option to choose my Microsoft Account is greyed out. So as usual, I contact support. Tell
them my issue. Which she comes back and says that you can not use your account, to buy your account Gold. Now, I love Xbox. Been a big fan for many, many years now and never had trouble from them until tonight. I just think it is the STUPIDEST thing ever to
say, "Hey, we will let you add money to your Microsoft Account, but you can't spend it on your Microsoft Account." I don't even get why that is a rule?! Then, the lady tells me to go back to the store and get a refund. UM HELLO?? How the HECK am I suppose
to do that?! I USED the code, not to mention the silver area was scratched off!! The store I got it from, WILL NOT, I repeat, WILL NOT accept prepaid cards if they have been used. Again, I am sorry, but I am really frustrated about this. Thank you for your
time, and I would like your opinion on this.

Why didn't you just buy a pre paid gold card?

I live in a small town. We don't even have a GameStop. Some knockoff game store that really only has the old old gen games.

 

If you look at the front of the card it shows you what you can use it for. Xbox Live gold is not an option.

 

I agree that the OP should have looked into this a little more but to be honest I agree that the situation is odd.

That you can't pay for a Microsoft service with currency from a Microsoft account is extremely odd.

Perhaps this is something that they will introduce in time? After all, imagine putting up a day pass for gaming online. Think how many Silver members might have odd amounts lying on their account and would be wiling to trade that in for a day of online play.

 

^^ like most subscription based services a recurring payment method is required. Money in your MSA isnt always going to be there.

Absolutely 24 but neither is there any guarantee that the payment is going to be there on a credit or debit card either.

The simple solution would be to have automatic renewal turned off as default on Live time purchased with funds from a Microsoft account. Something I am sure is not beyond the abilities of Microsoft.
