The Xbox Series S and last gen game performance

I've come across a fairly annoying "issue" yesterday after downloading the Mafia 1 remake for my Series S. Mafia is not a next gen game, this is clear. What is also clear is that the game runs at different resolution depending on your console.

Xbox one - 900p

PS4 - 1080p

X1X - 1440p

PS4 Pro - 1440p

Now, I am not sure about the series X and PS5, but I am assuming the console OS interacts with the game code to launch the game in 1440p, but I am not sure. I believe since those consoles are target 4k the OS or console ID registers the same as the "improved" ID the X1X and PS4Pro get.

This is not the case for the series S. My series S boots the game in 900p. Yes. Thats right. Mafia looks better on a base PS4 then a brand new Series S.

This is simply due to the games boot process not picking up on the code that tells the game its on an improved console like the 1X or the Pro. The Series S while not the beast that is the Series X and PS5, it is still far superior to the X1X and the PS4 Pro. Even with the beefy GPU and higher Tflops in the 1X, its old technology and all the other specs fall short as well. I dont even need to go on like this, but it should be obvious that if a PS4 Pro and 1X can run this game at 1440p, then the Series S can do that easily.

Yet due to the way games are registering with the console it merely reads it as a standard Xbox. This has me worried for Cyberpunk 2077. I feel now that 2077 may end up doing the same thing with the Series S until the next gen patch gets applied next year.

Anyone have any insight? Is this simply up to the game developer to patch the game to make it run at a suitable resolution on the Series S?

I put in a ticket with 2k games who did the Mafia remake because I'd like to hear their response, though I'm sure it will just something generic without any resolve. I'd love if they patched the game. Honestly it shouldn't be that hard. CoD Cold War can detect my Series S as a Series S. No, I wouldn't expect this for old games of course but Mafia came out Sept 25. And all other games coming out now that are being mainly developed for the One/Ps4 should really address this. I never planned on getting a Series S but mainly did so to play 2077 since its been too hard to get a PS5 or Series X, and I wanted at least something next gen to have for 2077 since a game like that will be very CPU heavy and benefit greatly from a SSD. So I saw a series S in stock and picked it up. Still waiting to buy a PS5. By next year I'll probably have both of them and most likely gift my series S to someone but right now it is what I have and this type of issue is a bit worrying! Well see what happens...
