I agree with your only real legitimate complaint, which is the install speeds from disc. They are pretty bad.

The rest, like the UI is just something that you get used to over time, I know the overall impression at the start can be quite a shock to the system, but it ain't so bad once you get used to it!

Op, if it sounds like criticism the "regulars" will be out to let you know what they think (particularly about the competition), you have to know this using the forums, there are a few helpful people who won't take it personally and help instead of the assaulting
with the usual cliches.

I think your machine might have a few faults and you should return it. Defo shouldn't make those noises, the DL/UL should actually be super quick, with all the updates the OS shouldn't be as laggy as it was. it's difficult to pin point your problems but
it does sound like the consoles ready to give up.

Hey Digital Assassin.

If you're loading your game by disc then just disconnect from the internet, insert the disc, watch it start to load, go make a cup of tea and when you come back it will be done.

For some reason it loads much faster offline.

As others have said, if your console is making a screeching noise then something is definitely wrong and I would also advise getting it replaced.

I'm baffled that with your broadband speeds you have posted in your sig that your having problems with downloads? At the moment I get around 77mb download, 17mb upload ( BT Infinity ) and the longest I've ever waited for a game to install/download updates
is about 20-25 minutes. Have you tried installing the game first whilst offline then connecting to Xbox LIVE to do any updates? Some have said this greatly improves times. If I was you though I would check with your ISP to see if there's a possible issue.

As for your other complaints, I personally don't have any real issues with the Xbox One, sure at first it took a while to get use to the layout but I'm ok with it now. Very easy to navigate ( whether using Kinect or the Pad ) For me though 99% of my consoles
use is for games and going in Party's with friends/family and it works just fine, sure the odd hiccup but overall I'm more than happy.

As someone else has said, maybe the Xbox One just isn't for you?

Thanks Az, I might give that a go next time.

At the moment I just play the 360 while I wait or start the install as I'm going to bed ready for the next day. It's never been too much of an inconvenience.

I own both systems. What i dont get about xbox one is they havent released a new game since siper elite 3. Thats about 3 weeks ago. The biggest compliant i have with xbone is the game dvr compared to the ps4. You cant even take a screen shot and it only
records last 5 min plus you have to snap the dvr. Where as the ps4 you just hit the share button and blam last 15 min is saved. Hit share button for screen shot blam done. Other then the dvr thing im glad i bought an xbone..

RMA a console that is less than a week old?

Your retailer is the entity that should be taking care of console defects within the first 30 days. After that, go to MS. One should almost never RMA a DOA/defective product to the manufacturer. That's the Retailer's responsibility.

 

I have no issues. The XB1 is amazing. However, everyone's experience is different. To each their own. My install and download speeds are fine. On average about 10 minutes. Sorry to hear about your experience.

With that being said, the UI and home screen is jumbled. But they are working on that.

 

I'll try and fix your concerns here

1) if you X1 is making noise, get it replaced. its not normal. its literally silent. even at the largest loads of games mine and all my friends make no noise. Sorry you got a bad one, but MS will replace it for free so take advantage of it while its under
warranty

2) PS4 doesn't install multiple things at once. neither does the X1. but at least the X1 lets you pause and change downloads. the PS4 doesn't. once you start downloading something, you can't download anything else until its done. X1 lets you pause it and
download smaller things 1st if you want.

3) X1 takes longer to install at 1st because it installs all updates as well in one shot. In the end they come out the same and are only help back by your internet speed. PS4 might install faster but then you still have to install updates after so it works
out to be the same in the end. X1 just streamlines the process so when you buy a game, its instantly up to date.

4) You can personalize your dashboard. MS is making eveyrhting in their "family" uniform. the X1, sufrace tabs, windows phones, and windows 8 all have the same layout. sure it might take some adjusting to, but i find it much better once you are used to it
personally. aslo you can launch anyhting with a simple voice command.

5) the store does have a games with gold section. its on the home screen as well. also you can voice search any game you want in the store and get their instantly. "xbox bing titanfall" will take you right to titanfall in teh store for example

6) how often are you going to change the console name? Same thing happens for PC if you change its name it has to restart. its pretty normal as its tied to the OS. same with routers, if you change their SSID they have to reboot. this is standard in any device.

7) new friends layout is coming. I love it. You can also group your friends in categories to make it easier also according to your profile you have 0 friends, so how can you be having an issue with this? I ahve over 100 friends and never have an issue with
the layout personally.

8) the X1 is much faster then the 360 in terms of navigation, loading times etc. also you can do multiple things at once with snap. the X1 is superior to the 360 in every way possible as far as hardware, speed, and OS go. its a step forward
