The xbox one controller disconnected during the update and does not want to restart

repair may be needed if the controller remains unresponsive.

For the random disconnects (and possibly the battery usage) make sure you've got the latest firmware in your controller. Connect the controller with a USB cable to be sure you won't have a disconnect during the update process.

What error do you see? Is your controller disconnecting?

I noticed on my wife's console that if the controller turned off during the update it would fail and restart. So if your controller/console sleeps when it fails just keep nudging the right analogue stick to keep them both awake until the update completes.

Hi!

1. 5 month old Xbox Series S.

2. This is the controller that came with the console, so a genuine Xbox controller.

3. It is noticable in both menu/home screen and apps, but especially during gameplay.

4. Have not tried any other controller. Can't afford to buy another one at the moment, and everyone I know plays PS.

5. It does not disconnect suddenly, stays connected all the time.

Both console and controller are updated and I have tried power cycling the console. Been like this since it was new.

When it happens I have to quit the game, and then restart the console twice, to get it back to normal.

Just to confirm, does the controller still disconnect with the cable as well? Does it disconnect randomly, or only at specific times in particular?

What’s the exact model of the controller, and is this a third party one or a genuine one? If it’s an official Microsoft one, you can find the version number in the battery compartment.
