    The Xbox Game Bar recorder triggers the overlay to display an error, and unable to reopen...


    After updating my Intel graphics driver via the manufacturer site, I noticed that something had changed with the Xbox Game bar application, failing to capture (sometimes with an error notification) every time I press the 'record' button in the Overlay GUI.

    Also, I had noticed that the check box to remember a game is remained checked, and seems unable to be unchecked (because when unchecking, this closes the overlay as it does when attempting to record).

    Just wondering if anyone could help out in resolving this particular issue? I have tried seeking support on other forums, but I don't think anything relates to this, or Internet. This bug is fairly recent, as it dates just before I upgraded my graphics card.

    * I have already tried uninstalling any Xbox apps related to it (in Powershell when necessary), and re-downloading them again from the Microsoft store.

    DEVICE INFORMATION

    - Intel Core i5-7200U

    - Intel Graphics 620

    - Windows 10 - Home Edition 1903

    EDIT: The Xbox overlay, in my case as of now, once attempting to record is:

    - Unable to display sometimes until I restart my computer

    - Unable to record a game that it has remembered (as the Remember check box in some cases cannot be unchecked)

    Well, the app did function before I updated my Graphics so this can't be an application fault... or could this be a compatibility issue? Anyway, is it possible to tell if the issue is caused by an update in Graphics (or generally speaking)? Or can this be
    fixed in a Windows Update?

    Have you tried resetting the Game Bar app? Right click the app icon, click more, click app settings, then you can reset and repair the app there. Also, check Windows Store for any updates to the app since you just updated your drivers there might
    be an update in the Store for the app to go with the new drivers.
    Yes, but the problem is that there aren't any updates for the app itself, and I have many times attempted to repair/reset it. Thus, I am a little unsure what to do in this case...

    To record Game Bar overlay while recording with Game Bar itself, you need to enable the "Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar" option in the Game Bar settings. Here are the steps to do so:



    1. Press the Windows key + G to open the Game Bar.

    2. Click on the Settings icon (gear icon) on the Game Bar.

    3. In the Game Bar settings, make sure that the "Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar" option is turned on.

    4. Also, make sure that the "Record audio when I record a game" option is turned on if you want to record audio along with your gameplay.

    5. Once you have enabled these settings, you can start recording your gameplay by pressing the Windows key + Alt + R.



    Please note that not all games support Game Bar overlay recording. If you are having trouble recording Game Bar overlay while recording with Game Bar itself, it could be due to the game not supporting this feature.
