I did add more to that post but as usual the forums were playing up & the edit didn't show up.

They did eventually offer me something for my situation but I had to jump through hoops to get it & phone support seemed to think that U.K. consumer laws didn't apply to Microsoft.

If microsoft has officers in UK Australia and NZ, microsoft falls under the jurisdiction of those countries and must comply with those countries laws. otherwise they can get kicked out of the country by those governments, or get into trouble with them. It
also states in their terms of use, if you live outside of the US your countries laws imply in interpretting the contract. its like if your an american citizen and go visit australia or nz. while in those countries, you are bound by their laws. you cant just
say nah im an american citizen im only bound by us laws. it foesnt work that way. same with microsoft.

The law is above any contract. full stop.

If microsoft offered you a console which shot sparks out of it electro, you could sue them for that. that is a serious health and safety risk. and there are laws which microsoft can be held claccountable for that. companies tend to try and minimize your
rights in their terms of service. but everyone is accountable for the law.

  3. The sparking replacement console was in place of my DDE (falty optical drive) origional xbox. But to file suit against MS or have any chance of winning in the US. Would not only take an act of Congress, but honest Judges from local, appalient, as well as
    the USSC.

Later in life I did find out what caused "Old Sparky." - Broken solder joint were the power cord connects to the internal power board... So one would think xbox repair would have caught that... IF only they were competant enough to even do a basic check/repair.

From my experience Microsoft are crap at repairing their consoles which is why I would rather buy a new console than pay them to do it if it was out of warranty.

Most of the time it would of been an easy fix if I could of done it myself & a lot cheaper.
    That ^

If it's Microsoft's mess, THEY should be the ones to fix it, and fix THEIR MESS, not for the customer to arrange it. Microsoft is required by law, to fix it. Luckily most customers (if under warranty) just request a refund or a new console, as it's a quick
solution. My turtle beach 500x broke TWICE in the last 12 months (it developed cracks cuz of the cheap plastic they use). I got a new pair of turtle beach 500x on both occasions, and the retailer paid for same day shipping. Being a major company worldwide,
Microsoft should be setting an example in terms of excellent customer service. But *some* people are happy to repair it themselves. But Microsoft's policy is, consoles with firmware of unknown origin, quality or intent get banned permanently from Xbox Live.
In their Code of Conduct, it states "Don’t cheat or tamper. For example, don't:

    • Use unauthorized hardware or software"

That could mean repairing a console yourself without an authorized Microsoft service person and authorized hardware from Microsoft.

Imagine people repairing their console and using their own CPU/GPU/RAM etc or what have you.

Elected officials can't get reelected without loads of 💰. so the'll take the gaming industries bribs (campaign contributions) and kill any bill the industry wishes. Then other states, countries will see a way to make a quick buck/euro and before you know
it, the gaming industry will be out billions more in bribe money.

Oh well, MS and Sony can afford it.
