The "surprise" game of 2014

far Cry 4 rapidly becoming one of my top games of all time. Stunning environment that is a total free roam playground. So much to do its unreal and filled with great characters.

 

^^ It is in my top 3 all time favorite games. The reason I didn't include it here is because I knew it would be awesome.

 

Legend of Korra, far better than it has any right to be with a surprisingly deep combat system. On the other system I'll say InFamous First Light, it's rare when DLC is better than the original game but FL was amazing.

 

Have to go with the Telltale Walking Dead Games.

 

Valiant Hearts. It is hard for me to pick a AAA title as a "surprise" game as they are supposed (I stress "supposed") to be good.

 

^. Mmmm I must pick that up at some time. I listed FC4 as it genuinely surprised me as I didn't rate FC3 at all. Heard good things about Valiant Hearts!

 

truth be told, i was surprised by a lot of games this year, Tomb RaiderE, Wolfenstein, Alien:Isolation, Child of Light, Peggle 2, Watch Dogs, Metro Redux, Plants vs Zombies, all have made a really great year of gaming for me.

 

I was excited about Sunset Overdrive before launch but had no idea it would shoot up my list of favorite games until I actually played it. Amazing game that can just put a smile on your face for no reason

 

I had three games that surprised me this year:

Sunset Overdrive - Most fun I have had playing a game

Ryse - Gripping story and a beautiful game

Wolfenstien - Great homage to a classic game

 

Alien Isolation.

I thought it was going to be just as bad as previous 'Alien' games. Turns out it's one of the best games this year. I loved every second of it. It took survival horror to the next level.

 

tough question. i'll say Grand Theft Auto V. didn't expect much because I didn't enjoy GTA 4 at all and really i haven't been a GTA fan but GTA V is fun. i guess you can also say Unity is a close second because I too felt nothing for Black Flag but at
least in Unity i've been wanting to play more.

 

I usually know what games i want to play.So no surprise,for me.

But i was surprised (and pleased) to have weather effects in Forza Horizon 2.One year after the release of Forza 5....

 

Farcry 4, Ryse, and Sunset Overdrive

 

I wouldnt say Ryse or Peggle were surprises of 2014 as they released in 2013. *Shrugs*

Have to say Valiant Hearts: The Great War, basically the only game I completed last year. Didn't know too much about it but bought it anyway and ended up loving every second of it.
