Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. We understand that when you try to launch Watch Dogs 2 on disc the console will launch the trial version of the game. We recommend

installing the game offline. This will allow the console to remove the currently installed version of the game and install the full game from the license on the disc. The support article we provided explains how to install a game while your console is offline.
Make sure you are online and
uninstall the current version of the game before following the steps. Once you have uninstalled the trial version, you don't need to follow step 2 in the instructions. Be sure to let us know the results!

could be the red laser that has failed, some have had success by resetting the xbox but in my experience it is usually the red laser diode that has gone, the series x and xbox one discs are blue ray which use a different diode.

Never had an issue with discs not reading, in my Xbox one day one edition, or with my Xbox one x. So no, I wouldn't go assuming it's the equivalent of the red ring of death.

When you say the drive has died on you, exactly what do you mean. Does it still take discs in, and eject them, or has it got no power to it at all?

We have an Xbox One and an Xbox X, both our kids want to play Red Dead at the same time, one on each console. Right now they take turns moving the disc mack and forth. If we buy a second disc, or purchase a digital version, will they both be able to play at the same time on each separate Xbox?

Yes as long as they are both signed into separate accounts

xbox one discs are blue ray that use the blue diode

xbox 360 discs are dvd that use the red diode.

can you insert a dvd film into the xbox and see if it picks it up, if not then the red diode(that reads dvd discs) could have failed.
