The Resolution Of The Human Eye

    Bigger is better... right?

As you prepare to throw money at 4K TV's and XBox Scorpios...

As you prepare to scoff at 4K because you know that 8K or even 16K exists and must be just around the corner...

Have you ever stopped to consider just what is the resolution of the human eye?

First of all... if you really want... need this bigger better more precise technology then stop reading now.

Proclaim yourself correct, the spend justified, the naysayers fools and proceed no further in this thread.

An interesting video on the resolution of the Human Eye:

(Oh my goodness... that's 9 minutes of my life... I don't have the patience for that... have a look at this picture instead)

    xkcd: Visual Field

    What do you think?

    Have we become resolution snobs?

Are we rushing to try on the Emperor's new clothes?

    What are your thoughts.

    :)

Future Xbox One games optimized for the Scorpio?

google what is the resolution of the human eye. its something like 576 mega pixels. That is far greater than what even 4k technology can produce. If more peeps were optometrists, you can appreciate the marvel of the human eye. Thus, if someone says there
is not much difference between 720p 1080p 4k 8k 16k, there is actually a difference and your human eyes will see the differece if you bother to take the time and appreciation to visually study it. And since sight and hearing are humans most vital sensors.
No one wants to be blind or deaf. Its why eye surgeory is kwazy so expensive because surgeons have to deal with maticulous and vital parts of our body.

Its just a game. But critics will always be comparing resolutions. Pretty much nothing on the market today is a 576 mega pixel display or camera.

I think i'm gonna watch an Indian movie.

    ....

He forgot to talk about "super eyes gamers" who can see if a game is upscaled or native.

    .....

I guess the best is to wait until eyes implant and nanotechnology.

    Humans are outdated.

  6. Yeah we've become technology/resolution elitists, so this isn't the reason why I'm playing better games on older consoles, it's just the content that I'm after.

I like this thread Azrael. But I decided to ask my phone and it verbally said this back to me:

"So the megapixel equivalent numbers below refer to the spatial detail in an image that would be required to show what the human eye could see when you view a scene. 90 degrees * 60 arc-minutes/degree * 1/0.3 * 90 * 60 * 1/0.3 = 324,000,000 pixels (324 megapixels).
    120 * 120 * 60 * 60 / (0.3 * 0.3) = 576 megapixels."

8k and 16k aren't even the NORM yet. Not even everything, yet, is in 4k.

1080p on a 5' phone screen or 40' screen is fine. But 1080p on like a 200' screen or those big screens on buildings, and you'll notice pixelization.

My guess is that the human eye can see at higher resolutions than even 16k. Even the human brain is too technical to even leading experts. The human body is a marvel. That's why people spend like 7 years or several years to study to be a dentist or doctor.
The 324 megapixels is a big number. If you're a resolution snob, good luck trying to convince manufacturers or anyone to produce a display which can output 324 megapixels and then introduce it to consumer products.

The Resolution Of The Human Eye

The only reason I upgraded to two 32" 720p and 1 55" 1080p televisions was because the writing on Oblivion (And some others.) was washed out and hard to read on the old C.R.T.s. Sure the 1080p T.V. looks better than the 32"s, but mostly play on the latter.

4k? In no hurry, though thinking about bumping up to a 40" in the bedroom. If I find good deal on a 4k when the Scorpio comes out...

Then again, there has to be a game that takes advantage of the Scorpio s power for me to buy one of them.

    Peace, J.R.

Interesting about the megapixels. More isn't always better. My S7 has a lower megapixel than my S5 had, but the images look way better. It has a higher resolution though.

You remember that link you posted to the guy who had a game running on a High End PC, Playstation 4 and XBox ONE and then asked people to identify which was which and why.

And so they did, even when they were all playing the same game on 3 different PS 4s and were able to clearly explain the differences they saw between the 3 gameplay experiences.

That video explains how and why that happens.

Smiles like a bird... if this guy and his crazy science is right... you're off by 16K.
