The power button on the XBONE console will not turn on or off.

I can power on with the controller just fine, but lately the console touch button will not power on or off.

It lights up just fine, but does not register when I touch it.

Any suggestions or help?

Hi MadPack, are you not able to power off the console either by holding down the guide button and selecting 'turn off console,' or by holding/touching the power button on the front of the Xbox for about 5-10 seconds?

JW you can not turn it off at the power cord or you would be unable to say XBONE on

 

No help? Am I the only one with a non working power button.

Sorry to hear about the power button issue, I can definitely understand how frustrating that could be. If you are continuing to experience the issue, try powering off your console by pressing the Xbox button on your wireless controller until the
Off menu is displayed. Then select the option to turn off the controller or turn off your console. Once your console is powered off, unplug the power cord and wait 5 minutes. Plug in your console and try powering on your console by pressing the power
button on your Xbox One console. If the button still does not register when you touch it, you may want to get your console repaired. You can request a repair through our Online Service center or
by contacting phone support from our Contact Us page. Once again, I am truly sorry to hear about the issue and any inconveniences this may have caused.

 

tried that, to no avail.

Official support chat wants me to ship it in at MY expense so they can fix THEIR defect.

Or they will send me a replacement console and charge me $15.00, AND hold $400 off of my credit card.

Since I have a 1 year warranty, I'll just tough it out for a while until something else on it breaks.

 

So far, so good! Unless HALO matchmaking is a hardware defect, It's doing okay.

Just to clarify, are you able to power on your console with the power button now?

 

No, it will only tuen on with Kinect or controller, NOT the power 'touch' button, it still doesn't work

It sounds like you have a broken or malfunctioning Ribbon Flex Cable. This should fall under your 1 year parts and labor warranty as you are not allowed to open the console yourself without voiding your warranty. I don't know if you and the support agent
were not understanding each other during the process of explaining the issue. I would suggest using the site located at the link I will provide and register your device for repair. Take the confusion of the middle man out.

That is the exact site that support walked me to in the past. To summarize, they will send a replacement console after putting a $400 hold on your card, OR I can send it in at my expense and $15.00 to cover a "service fee"

Neither of those options is viable for me.

I remember when my 360 got the RROD, I just followed a few steps on line and they sent a box.

Making me pay for it, like you do now, is not good

 

Are you sure you are within the warranty service dates?

Have you verified that the service website has the same warranty date on file by registering the console?

Was the device purchased from Microsoft or a chain retailer (Gamestop,Amazon,Ect) or was this a second hand purchase? (Not trying to insult you just trying to figure out why you are getting treatment I have not personally received for the same console)

Please let me know as I am interested in following this and finding out if there "free warranty service" is no longer free.

 

Yes, my xbox one is registered on the service site.

I purchased my xbox one from the Microsoft store in St. Louis, more than a 2 hour drive from where I am now.

I am in zip code [Mod Removed], and the store is in [Mod Removed]

It was new, factory sealed and untouched when I set it up.
