^^ Pretty much hit the nail on the head @Argontheos with everything there on that post.

For me on the main home page i'd like an option to have the main massive block minimised / maximised or large and small similar to video player options on pc's as it is just uses up too much space most of the time and defintely re-design the 4 blocks underneath
as the big black space on the right of these is just very poor design and a waste of space and just doesn't look right.

There's loads of other things too, but these are just a few things that niggle me.

Yeah I think with customisation needs it comes down to the basic annoyances for most of us.

If the Xbox Division announced that they were going to move all MS/Xbox controlled panels, links, content to their own page, between Apps and Music or whatever, called "Our Crap"... very few people would complain about it. lol

"Where'd all that cool stuff go off my Home page?"

It's the stimulus we don't control that annoys. In the space we occupy as gamers on a dash - about to game, or watch a movie, or get a party together. I don't wanna know that a National Geographic show exists when I boot up my gaming system. lol Or that
Rare Replay is... shockingly... still available via a sponsored link.

I wanna see the stuff that's me-centric. Namely... the stuff being displayed is my activity [even community/freinds' activity], in games and apps, and not what Microsoft would like to direct my attention to... and fail in doing that, so forcing me to ignore
much of the dashboard and its experience. Much like I ignore pushy store clerks who really, really want to help, after I've already said I don't need help. "Just back off!" >=| Heh ha ha! {=)

"Can I interest you in Ori yet ? Rare Replay, still only £20? That Nat Geo thing is available on demand... wanna watch it?"

    "Just back off!"

    lol

Don't get me wrong, I stand by most of your points to, again its been misinterpreted about my point ove the majority/minority view. I know businesses are going to go with the majority view, I'm not an idiot, my point was merely that a truly smart company
would also make it more accessible to the minorities as well as the majority pandering that they have to do.

As much as I don't like the advertising panels I understand that they are always going to be there, company's need to advertise. Though I love your point about rare replay, I have rare replay purchased through the dashboard but that ad is still there "I
see you already have this, would you like another copy just in case?"

I dislike the layout, primarily the fact I have to scroll vertical now instead of horizontal to see my pins, the fact that my recently played are on a different screen instead of filling the gap on the main screen and that the main screen now blocks out
most of any selected background image (I know there is a transparency option but I'm not a fan of that) and my second main gripe is the change in layout to the achievements screen, the main achievements app is now only snappable and when brought up in the
profile or game hub it is again vertical scrolling instead of horizontal and I have mentioned that more often than not the achievement notification doesn't pop up, though I assume this will be addressed at some point

Also as a customisation side note, generally more colours are needed in the profile menu

You can hit right trigger and the dash'll jump straight to the pins. I have a blue background with Gem from Tron in it, transparency at max, blue colour. It looks nice, even if I can only see Gem when I scroll down through the recent programs, or go to the
    Pins.

I want to see data/metrics for sponsored content, engagement with it, units sold or content viewed through it etc. If Major Nelson's videos are any indication - the number of people clicking these things is
miniscule. As you said they're directing sponsored links at people who already own the content.
    Utterly pointless.

I think if they did a survey to gauge the resentment/appreciation of people toward sponsored and controlled content, they'd find that they're actually annoying people with them, and generating negative feeling toward whatever is being sponsored.

Even if I'm channel skipping through TV with NOTHING else to do, and I come across that NatGeo show, I'm gonna grumble as I flick past it. lol Fed up of being reminded of it. {=|

Ha ha. I'm sure it's fine. Reminds me of kids TV when I've watched it, and there are thousands watching it. There's a fake enthusiasm I don't like. A bias that probably doesn't hit with a majority of consumers. Everything is dandy! Exciting! Woo hoo! Awesome!
Forced smile... keep nodding... GREAT! {8D

lol... So thousands watching it, but millions ignoring it. Does it deserve to be on a dashboard for millions to ignore? Or does it deserve to be its own thing away from the platform where fans can go watch it, and the rest of us can ignore it without the
effort, since it won't be in our faces when we want to peruuuuse the community section for friends' activity, and friends' game caps, and screenies and whatnot.

When the link leads it to YouTube the views it reaps are on par with a very, very small YouTube channel. 5K to 30K views, from a dash that millions are viewing? Next to nobody is clicking that stuff! I think the other sponsored links are probably the same.
Mostly they're just that thing, waving at you, peripherally, as you navigate through
your stuff, on your dash. {XD

It's Microsoft outside licking the window of your livingroom as you watch TV. You know it's there, but it's there every day, so you just sorta blank it out. Heh ha.

    I do anyway.

*sigh* I'm very aware I can press right trigger to get my games & apps or pins, my whole argument has been that I want to use the left bumper to get there like I used to, not right trigger. I want them to the left of my main page, not two pages beneath

OK... I'll step up and admit it too. *bravely steps forward* I watch it... and I'm not ashamed to admit it! The reason I'm not ashamed? I'm fully aware of the whole marketing thing,
the fake enthusiasm, bias and everything else. I just tune it out. Simple as you put it yourself. I watch just in case there is something I haven't heard about that might interest me going on.

Not trying to start an argument here, and this is not directed specifically at you. But I do have to make a point. Why does it seem like so many people just refuse
to realize the fact that this console isn't made for each and every person's individual preferences... and it can't be? Sure it'd be nice, but we all know that it's logistically impossible. Customization options are the best we can ask for.

But, more importantly than that, IMO is something people just don't think about... It's true, we pay a lot for our consoles and they're
our consoles... but here's the thing. It is not your stuff on
    your dash...
unless perhaps, you go offline. Yup... that's right. We pay a sub to XBL and you, yourself, used the word "community" when you mentioned perusing your friends' activity. You pay that fee to be a part of a community of online gamers and to
have access to all that community has to offer.

All that stuff we see on the dashboard is there for the entire community's interests, not just mine, not just yours, not just any one single person's. The UI is designed
    with the community in mind.

Whether or not a person only wants access to any one single aspect of XBL and doesn't want bothered with other stuff doesn't matter. The sub fee is for the whole package
and that's what we get. UI design, This Week in Xbox (think that's the name), ads we may or may not like to see and all.

Don't know about anyone else, but any time I've taken my console offline... well... in my experience, the benefits of being a member of this community and what it gives
me access to outweigh the drawbacks by such a margin that I'd consider the things I don't like (and there are some) petty in comparison to what I get.

It's Microsoft outside licking the window of your livingroom as you watch TV. You know it's there, but it's there every day, so you just sorta blank it out. Heh ha.

    I do anyway.

This made me lol. I wonder if that's why I noticed one LR window almost always has weird looking swirl marks on it? When it's really cold, would they get stuck to it? Wait a minute!
If something in my house stops working... then... does that mean saving everything I was working on, closing all open windows and then shutting off the power for a few minutes and then turning it back on will fix it? 0.o

Hey Blue. =) I get when you say this device isn't directed at individuals, and I know you weren't addressing me specifically, but my point with the Major Nelson videos [and 'like'-content] in the Community section, or the sponsored links to content people
already own, is... people just aren't clicking/watching it!

If we're all in a community then those links to those videos are invitations to parties that next to nobody is attending. Stop putting up the invites around town, nobody wants to drink your punch, you're wasting paper. [Dashboard space.]

5K to 30K views out of millions potentially seeing the link, if not millions then hundreds of thousands... people just are not clicking it. A negligible number of gamers are interested, so perhaps consider replacing it with something more successful, or
removing it completely. Make room for a friendly, friend-driven community landscape in that region of the dashboard, or something.

There's nothing particularly polarising about those videos either. No real talking points. Nothing that can potentially reap an interested audience, keen to see the next episode/update.

Nobody gives opinions in them, because everything is 'awesome', and in terms of negative content I'm not even thinking of anything particularly deep. They don't even deliver news that the community would eat up; such as Remedy's delays with Quantum Break,
and how that's progressing now, and what have you. For that we go to third-party sites, or third-party video content delivering that kind of news.

"Everything is awesome. Everything is awesome. There's some awesome stuff planned. Here's more awesome stuff."

    Nobody is interested.

Not everybody thinks whatever it is, is awesome, so dial it back and talk like a human. "Here's what we're doing with the Xbox One next month!" Not, "Here are some super-cool features heading your way at happy happy lightspeed through rainbows and sunshine
from Xbox this month!" ~all teeth, unblinking, insane smile, nod more, nod more~

They had may as well animate Dora the Explorer and get her to present it. I might learn a bit of Spanish every week if they did that.

We'll decide what's awesome and cool. Saying something is awesome and cool doesn't make it so. Ha ha. Saying EVERYTHING, every update, and every feature is awesome and cool tends to damage the definition of the words awesome and cool. It can lower expectations
and interest. I love my Xbox One, but if I had to sit through ten minutes of somebody telling me how awesome it is every week... I'd tune that somebody out. Maybe I'd even hit them with my Xbox.

It's a total miss. If this was a democracy and those views were votes, people aren't voting to keep that stuff on the dashboard... it's just there, like clockwork, viewers or not. lol

  12. ...There's nothing particularly polarising about those videos either. No real talking points. Nothing that can potentially reap an interested audience, keen to see the next episode/update.

    Mostly agreed.

Nobody gives opinions in them, because everything is 'awesome', and in terms of negative content I'm not even thinking of anything particularly deep. They don't even deliver news that the community would eat up; such
as Remedy's delays with Quantum Break, and how that's progressing now, and what have you. For that we go to third-party sites, or third-party video content delivering that kind of news.

IMO, one shouldn't use a reference to "the community" as a whole when making this kind of statement. News that the community would eat up is subjective. Perfect example; I don't
care about QB's issues. My eyes would glaze over if they did that (Not that they don't anyway often enough). If they want my attention, actually get the game ready and start advertising a realistic release date on a realistic timeline. I want to know about
the game when it comes close to releasing, not why it won't be for who knows how long.

Although I won't disagree with your broader point, but... the way I see it, all it does is give a basic recap of "This Week in Xbox"... just as the title implies. In addition to
a few nods towards what's on the horizon. Putting the content in the context of the title makes it pretty much WYSIWYG, limited as that may be.

"Everything is awesome. Everything is awesome. There's some awesome stuff planned. Here's more awesome stuff."

    Nobody is interested.

You mentioned something like 5k to 30k views I think. That isn't nobody... and while you could argue it's a minimal number compared to the number not clicking it, I would counter
with "they're still part of the community".

Not everybody thinks whatever it is, is awesome, so dial it back and talk like a human. "Here's what we're doing with the Xbox One next month!" Not, "Here are some super-cool features heading your way at happy happy
lightspeed through rainbows and sunshine from Xbox this month!" ~all teeth, unblinking, insane smile, nod more, nod more~

LOL... I agree. *Said as I'm cleaning swirl marks off my window*

They had may as well animate Dora the Explorer and get her to present it. I might learn a bit of Spanish every week if they did that.

I took a Spanish class in school, but it's been so long... I'd love to have a way to brush up! We should request this on the feedback section! ...lol?

We'll decide what's awesome and cool. Saying something is awesome and cool doesn't make it so. Ha ha. Saying EVERYTHING, every update, and every feature is awesome and cool tends to damage the definition of the words
awesome and cool. It can lower expectations and interest. I love my Xbox One, but if I had to sit through ten minutes of somebody telling me how awesome it is every week... I'd tune that somebody out. Maybe I'd even hit them with my Xbox.

I absolutely agree, calling everything awesome/cool demeans their definition. I really do wish he'd scale that back from 10+ to about a 3. If you ever think about hitting someone
with your Xbox... consider giving it to someone who may still get benefit from it first. I could still get some benefit from it... just sayin' XD

It's a total miss. If this was a democracy and those views were votes, people aren't voting to keep that stuff on the dashboard... it's just there, like clockwork, viewers or not. lol

Seems like this kind of thing doesn't last all that long anyway if you think about it. Remember Trixie 360? How about that other girl... can't remember her name now, but they actually
made a character model of her (as a reporter lol) in Mass Effect 3. Looked like her and she even did the voice over... Diana Allers was the reporter's name in the game... Wasn't there a segment for awhile with 2 guys in it as well? Maybe they should've stuck
with Major's Minute? How annoyed could we get in 60 secon... wait, don't answer that. lol

If it's not that popular, which it appears not many things like that can retain popularity for long periods, it'll eventually give way to something... else. This is the point where
I will say be careful what you wish for... LOL

My problem isn't with the kinect, I like the kinect. I bought kinect individually when it was released on 360, granted it had been significantly improved by the time xbox one came out and frankly id like to see more kinect games or kinect incorporating games
but that's not what this thread is about. This is about the ugly dashboard layout of the xbox one referred to as "the new xbox one experience" and its inferior navigability, I have no gripe with loading times etc or even the lag, I mentioned in an earlier
comment I expect flaws in technology, I don't expect or appreciate forced aesthetic changes, in this case dashboard layout.

My comment about them considering minority views has been misinterprated. I don't mean base your entire market campaign looking for the 5% I'm saying add more options to accommodate the 5% (the 5% is a random statistic I made up to represent the minority
    here)

    The OLD xbox one experience

I like you PICK 34 you picked up on pretty much all of the problems I have (only missing the pins being to the left instead of down) the horizontal recently played needs to come back it was just better than a redundant space and I find the new UI blocks
most of the background picture, which most of you would say isn't a problem but it sort of is. To be honest the new XOE isn't that bad its all aesthetic problems that are a big deal to me and my wife, like I've mentioned xbox one is our main source of media
in our household and now its a garish sight on my tv screen
  16. SolaWrex Win User

    The OLD xbox one experience

I also had xbox one since day one, and like all technology I expected (and still expect) sluggish menus and glitchy screens here and there, no matter how good technology gets, its man made so its flawed. I don't care that the new dash might be 1-3 seconds
faster at loading things, I'm not going to benefit from having those three seconds, I can't imagine myself penning a novel with the cumulated minutes of life this buys me, I would sooner spend those few seconds looking at the spinning circle in front of a
faded out aesthetically pleasing dashboard than this monster that has been forced upon me, it should at least be customisable, I want to change the layout and just straight up remove the oneguide tab.

Its the lack of minority consideration from Microsoft that I hate.

I think you're all missing the point.

To put it in simple terms its like a car manufacturer selling "blue sports car" and you think yes this car is perfect ill buy it, you spend two years getting used to it then wake up and find the company you bought it from has painted it white and you're
not allowed to change back. Life may be too short to argue about a bumper or a trigger but ill enjoy ir a lot by doing so than just meekly bending to the will of the powers that be.
