    The OLD xbox one experience

Lol. Know I would concentrate on the minority instead of the majority when running a for profit business...wait...no I wouldn't. Just wouldn't make sense.

With the old dash Kinect was a necessity for navigation. Know I only use it for Skype, as the new U.I. is smooth as silk.

At the end of the day I, and believe most people, bought the X Box One to play games; it seems to fulfill that purpose regardless of what the dash looks like.

I would hope, since you said you are in the Preview Program, that you are actively reporting these horrendous lag times in viewing the side bar and viewing achievements. No one in the Preview forums is reporting anything like what you claim to be seeing
on a regular basis particularly the "waiting minutes to see achievements" unless of course there is service disruption that appears all too frequently for minutes or hours at a time.

I'm not saying do everything for the minority, just show some consideration, businesses should be doing it more, they would be surprised at just how many people a minority can be these days.

And in honesty I haven't been on the preview programmes forums this has been the only complaint I have to make so far, I will start posting on the preview forums if nobody else is reporting this. But as I've said I'm willing to deal with the lag as I have
since xbox one launched, its the aesthetic problems that are the big problem

    The OLD xbox one experience

Of course my xbox still play games, but one of the biggest selling points of the xbox one was how well it utilizsd other media sources than games, and as I mentioned in an earlier post it has become our main source of media in our house (aside from the occasional
dvd) and we are forced to use this ugly dashboard

  5. Just to make clear, even though i would like to see the Kinect dropped completely, i don't think Microsoft should do that as too many people enjoy it and is part of a system that they initially paid for and to take that away wouldn't be right or fair to
    them.

However, what i am saying is the Kinect is holding back what the console is actually capable of as the UI will 'always' have to be designed to incorporate the Kinect to the detriment of how the UI looks with it's horrible oversized blocks and pretty much
everything else including all the apps. Anyone who thinks otherwise is honestly kidding themselves.

Microsoft realised alot of users don't like Kinect and have been coerced into creating what they think is suitable for both sides but have infact created a sort of ugly Frankensteins Monster UI which is an amalgamation of lots of different things, which
partially works but still needs so much work which alot of users don't have the patience for, but ultimately will never be a 'Great UI' due to the concessions that will always be needed to incorporate the Kinect.

Again, as much as i don't like Kinect, i don't think it should be dropped.

This is speculative so indulge me: The last I read Kinect had been picked up by 5 million users, mostly comprised of early-adopters, and purchasers from before it was dropped as a requirement.

EA recently released the numbers of their next-gen installed-base, and from that, removing the PS4 sales numbers... it had the Xbox One at around 20 million installed-base.

You can add or substract if you think there are more people on next-gen NOT playing EA games. lol I think since EA has done its free weekends and things with EA Access, pretty much everyone has played at least one EA game at some point on Xbox One. But installed-base
tends to mean active players, so let's say there are fewer.

Point is... if catering to minority needs isn't a thing, then it really shouldn't be very long until Kinect is dropped. [It won't be, but this is the point regarding minority needs ain't it?] Because the numbers don't add up. Far more people have Xbox One's
without the Kinect, than those that have it... uh.. with it...

... so. Yeah. Just some yummy food for the old thoughtifier there. {=)

My problem isn't with the kinect, I like the kinect. I bought kinect individually when it was released on 360, granted it had been significantly improved by the time xbox one came out and frankly id like to see more kinect games or kinect incorporating games
but that's not what this thread is about. This is about the ugly dashboard layout of the xbox one referred to as "the new xbox one experience" and its inferior navigability, I have no gripe with loading times etc or even the lag, I mentioned in an earlier
comment I expect flaws in technology, I don't expect or appreciate forced aesthetic changes, in this case dashboard layout.

My comment about them considering minority views has been misinterprated. I don't mean base your entire market campaign looking for the 5% I'm saying add more options to accommodate the 5% (the 5% is a random statistic I made up to represent the minority
    here)

Yeah i totally understand that you like the Kinect - all i'm trying to explain in simple terms is that the Kinect is why the UI is and always will be fairly ugly ...

Your problem isn't with the Kinect, but the design considerations around the dashboard may well be tied to the Kinect experience, as johnnydigsgirls alluded to. So perhaps indirectly... it is connected. The Kinect experience is one a minority are having,
    or even wanting.

Think about this. If only 5 million out of 20+ million are using the device... how much in resources does the Kinect eat up? Not just in creating an intuitive dashboard that works with it, but in development cost and support, and R&D and all that jazz? Supporting
different languages, and regions across the world... when only a minority are utilising the device?

Why is that device such a huge deal for a minority crowd, and your gripes can't be, from a minority gripey point? lol Customisation [moving things around on our end will affect Kinect's ability to navigate to those things in the system, so you can't move
them] and what have you, or even to system resources, speed of the dashboard, accessibility with the controller [in the context menu I'm missing from the last UI] and all of that kind of thing.

How much of that would be a thing if the Kinect didn't suck resources from development strength, and the entire thing was built around a controller the ENTIRE userbase has in hand?

Who knows? lol Not I says I. {XD I know not. What I know not... or sumthin' tss tss.

But again my point is it was a better designed dashboard before the NXOE update, why cant we have it back?

Also I don't see how something as simple as creating or removing shortcuts could affect kinects ability to navigate to them, its no different to adding the pins already there I would just like say in where they are displayed on my dash. I can do it on my
windows phone, why not the bigger better machine?

  11. ^Herein lies the problem... it is not a fact that the previous dashboard was "better". Better is subjective... it is only your opinion. There will always be people who aren't happy with changes to a new or different UI. Short answer is they just aren't going
to go backwards... and yes... to them, going back to the previous dash is indeed, a step backwards, just because some people don't like the new one.

^ Right, and they're not going to split the userbase by giving them a choice between old and new UI's - old and new versions of the operating system - and having to split resources supporting and updating them both. If you wanted the old UI, you'd have no
backward compatibility, no Windows 10 cross-play... I reckon SmartGlass would eventually move past it. Just, no updates. Nata. Hoo hoo hoo.

I'm fine with not having backwards compatibility, I have a 360, I'm fine with not hooking up to windows 10, I haven't used smart glass (except for typing the occasional message) for a couple years. I'm not asking them to split UIs between people I just want
something isn't horrible, it was much nicer and easier to navigate before the update, whereas I have no difficulty navigating these new menus, my wife does and I can see why

Customisable is the only solution I can see that will make everyone happy. No iteration of there UIs have been pleasing to all, I know some hated the blades on the original 360, I loved them and would still love to see them back, I know this wont happen
either but that UI was usable and somewhat pleasing to the eye, this new xbox one isn't. And yes that is my opinion but people saying it looked good is also just there opinion and ill be standing by mine. I find listening to the majority's is never a good
thing, majority crowds have led us to hipsters, white cars and playstation fanboys

My gripe with the new UI is purely with functionality when accessing/snapping apps while in-game, on a controller. Game DVR and Achievements. It was simply better on the old UI. S'not even "IMO" - it's just a fact. Aesthetically, if I could customise this
thing it would make my day. Minimalistic... like every device I own and can customise.

Everything on the Home screen would stretch right across it. The main window, and the recently used panels. Do away with that useless Quick Guide square, and the sponsored links to National Geographic pants TV shows in my face, and sponsored game promotions,
and game/sale notifications. I can find that stuff.

Everything in the Community section would stretch right across. No Major Nelson video links leading to videos with 5K to 30K views [out of potentially millions seeing the link. NOBODY is clicking that stuff! Why is it there?]

Gee it'd be nice. But will happen? Nope. I remember reading an article with comments from the guy who designed the dynamic advertising panels on 360, that migrated over to Xbox One. He was apologising for having designed it. lol I do not accept that apology,
sir. You intruded on a gaming experience with your mini-billboards and links to content nobody is clicking on. {=D

  15. I've never been against more customization options, unless they make it so complicated that it actually makes something more difficult to use than it was prior. Also, I 'never say never'... even when it comes to listening to the majority. Just ask MS...
actually, ask any business... they want to hear from and listen to the majority. That's where the profit margin will look its best from.
