I'm a bit sick of the Halo franchise now, they have been milking the same cow now for years. Unless they do something radical and truly innovative with the next one, then I won't be purchasing it, which will be a shame. I want a truly next gen title, lush
rich and detailed environments, that suck you into the Halo Universe and make you feel like you are actually part of a bigger thing.

 

Halo is still the only game i end up at a midnight launch to buy because i just can't wait til the morning. Even though i have been slightly disappointed with the multiplayer since Halo 3, its the story that sells it to me. Anyone who has seriously got involved
in the back story and read all of the novels etc. will understand where i'm coming from.

Ok... Firstly, for the people posting that Halo is a CoD clone/rinse and repeat, one trick pony, the above comment is where people who think that, and people who know the story inside and out differ.

You say it's a "button mash, go here, shoot that" game? Well aren't most games? The difference being that it totally depends on how invested you are in the Halo universe. The story that is being told inbetween the "button mash", "go here, shoot that"
is the point, and if you don't understand it, or follow it, of course your not going to get it.

Don't forget as kingvas said "Master Chief is Xbox.... they go hand in hand". Without Halo and the Chief, Xbox would not be where it is today. So please, Halo certainly has earned some credit.

I'm certainly not wishing that Halo goes stale and becomes a cookie cutter franchise, nothing would disappoint me more... But having a slightly more intimate knowledge of the "Haloverse" through the books etc, I have certainly not been disappointed yet...
Yes, even Halo 4, as it's Forerunner story was even better that I could have imagined... The Forerunner saga books Cryptum and Primordium explain who these characters are, and without that you'd be pretty lost. It was even stated that for fans who know the
fiction, this game would hold something special for them... But, I certainly can see where people without that depth of immersion would find the series less than expected. It's like tuning in to Breaking Bad in the third season and expecting to be as satisfied
with it as someone who had watched it from the start.

343i had and has BIG shoes to fill, of that there is little doubt, especially with Bungie's Destiny launching (possibly) within a stone's throw from Halo 5... Bungies pedigree is definitely not in question, but I truly believe that 343i will deliver on H5.
That's not just the fanboy in me dreaming away, it's the way in which any good game developers learn from their past, and apply it to the future... They know that if they don't deliver, it could possibly hurt the Halo franchise irreparably as a AAA title,
and I don't believe they would be that naive to think otherwise.

Only time will tell, and I respect those whose opinion differs from mine, I just hope this convo can be kept civil and constructive.

The end of Halo 4 made me want to tear up. Soooo saddddd

 

The end of Spartan ops made me want to know what will happen next. Sooooo greeeaaaattt

 

yea and Mass effect series had so very sad moments. But Halo 5 will be the really test for 343 if they f u its all over. But what I have been hearing MS has gone all out with the team for halo 5 or what ever it may be called.

Actually, it's the story that sells it to me as well. I'm pretty close to you with the MP feel. TBH, I never got any of the books or kept up with the lore as much... just didn't have the time. Also, there's this little part of me that says "I'd rather they
tell me the whole story within the scope of the actual game. To me, Halo's story would be worth watching some extra CG". But that's another topic.

Even with that being said... I understand where you're coming from perfectly.

 

Its been a while and it will probably be a while... I loved the first 2 Halos, they're the 2 of my most played games, the reason why I bought 360. Halo 3 was somewhat dissapointing and after that it's just been downhill. ODSTs Firefight was a nice addition,
Reach is meh and Halo 4 is something I just like to forget. So I'm not really looking forward to Halo 5, which means it has to be something truly extraordinary and not just another alien corridor shooter. It has to be like Combat Evolved was, smacking right
into my forehead.

Besides asking people to read books or watch animations so that they can enjoy the story is just weak, although sure you can kind of understand everything even without them. At this point the franchise seems like a train wreck that is trying to spread into
way too many directions.

 

I hope that it injects some much needed life into the franchise.
