    The new store is garbage

To be honest it's not confusing because if you can be asked to look at them all they do sort of tell you what's in the different editions.

However 2K admitted that despite "Evolve" being a success commercially their sales were impacted by confusion over their DLC offerings.

They used to make games and you used to be able to buy them and play them.

DLC used to add value and in some cases still does.

Unfortunately nowadays content is being managed to try and squeeze as much cash from the consumer as possible as well as pressure people into buying digitally.

When the ONE launched and they tried to peddle "Killer Instinct" by smashing it into pieces and selling it in bits I said this sort of App Store Sales Model has no place on a £400.00 console.

"Killer Instinct" could have been the defining fighter of this Generation if they hadn't made a confusing mess of it.

Let's hope "Battlefield 1" does better than "Star Wars".

A friend of mine who manages stock for a major Supermarket chain told me that "Star Wars Battlefront" had very disappointing sales.

In some ways a surprise because it's a great game based on a great franchise, but at the same time it's arguably another example of an Online Only mode and Season Pass model putting people off.

  2. I was chatting with a friend on Twitter about online only games. He like a lot of people doesn't like the idea which is fair enough.

For me though buying an online only game is no different to buying a single player only game. What's the difference apart from the obvious?

As long as the game is fun, keeps you going ( I've played some online games that last a lot longer than your average SP campaign ) then for me there's no problem

Single-player and multi-player? I expect a game like Fallout 4 to be able to play offline at all times, while when purchasing Titanfall knew it would be online only. Found out the Black Ops III campaign is online only when the servers for said game were
down and it was stating that it would have to be started from the beginning. Online functions on single player games and no ability to local save is just a clever D.R.M. tool...they can take our "toys" away anytime they see fit.

I don't really disagree with you.

The issue is that online gaming is over-priced and in many cases the only way to get the complete content for the game, therefore pressuring people into buying digital when they don't want to.

It robs people of choice and manipulates pricing, potentially unfairly and undermines games by devaluing them at the same time as over-charging for them.

  5. Az, not arguing at all but

My friend basically said what you have, over charging for MP only games ( apologies if I've read this wrong )

But take ( I'm not saying it's the same for all MP only games ) Battlefront, in the first 2 weeks of release I must have put around 50 hours into it. It was a lot of fun. Sure there's some HUGE SP games out there but quite a few today are average 10-20 hours
    story/campaign for the same/similar price.

Again as long as a game is fun a MP only game is no different to me than a SP only game

I would say it extends beyond MP only games.

"Fallout 4" is a good example. Great game... but for the complete experience you have to shell out for the Season Pass.

The disc version of this game crashed like the stock market in the 1930's dropping from full price to almost half price in less than a couple of weeks.

So... they raised the price of the Season Pass and have kept Season Passes out of the sales, offering instead a chance to buy the Full Game complete with all content for a reasonable price... if you hadn't already bought it when it came out.

"Batman" and "Unity" are another couple of games that came with large price tags at launch... and when it came to the sales... forget the Season Pass. You can buy the "complete edition" of the game for regular game price instead.

Publisher greed is getting out of hand and in some cases it's arguably putting people off great games.

"Dead Or Alive 5: Last Round": Brilliant game. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone though because of the £500.00+ DLC in the shop.

You don't have to buy it, but if you like a game... you want the whole game.

Firstly the Fallout pass was worth every penny considering the content. Secondly Bethesda announced that as there was going to be more content added then originally planned they were going to increase the price, however they didn't do it overnight and gave
a period where it could still be bought for the normal price. Doesn't seem greedy to me.

The releasevof DLC was exactly the same for Fallout 3 and NV. Great expansions it's not like it's cosmetic weapon skins. Perhaps if you had played any of it you would realise what good value DLC it is.

You waste far more money on games that you hardly play so I don't really get what your obsession with DLC is, as a consumer your a developer/publishers wet dream.

One of my friends in the PlayStation camp doesn't believe the D.L.C. was worth it. Personally don't understand his thinking, as he doesn't work, is on his sixth play-though, and has over 500 hours into it. He's also plans on starting from scratch when Nuka
World drops. I've got roughly 200 hours into the game and find the cost versus value amazing and quite generous compared to most games. Ignorance must be bliss, because I'm quite happy with the $90.00 spent on entertainment versus my friend the sourpuss that
feels he's been ripped off. Lol.

When I said you can't 'pin to home' I meant from the store page for a game. I used to pin all the games I wanted to buy, or was waiting for reviews on. That is now impossible. As the only options on the store are buy/play or 'free trial', where available.

Also you can no longer click the options button on a pin and select 'view in store' or 'manage game', you can only go to the totally useless but glossy looking 'game hub'. To manage the game you must open 'games and apps' and scroll through. What a joke.

The reviews are a positive thing thought, as are the restrictions; I don't want to see 5 star ratings for games that don't exist yet because the pre-rendered trailers were pretty.

    ^ What's confusing about it?

Battlefield, Forza Horizon 3 for example

You click on whatever version, read the description, what content it has, price etc then make your choice. Simple enough.

    [/quote]

    It's called "The Gruen Transfer".

The marketplace is laid out the way it is instead of being to the point and accessible to force you to browse and make it harder to find exactly what you want with the goal of inspiring impulse buys.

I'm sure there are other people who are really happy with "Fallout 4"'s DLC.

Despite that I know plenty who've got it and don't really feel it was worth it.
