The New media remote is an alternate for the Kinect

i use smart glass on my wp8 along with my itouch. but personally i find opening the application then connecting to my xbox one is just too slow. and at the same time i find that trying to turn the volume either up or down via voice commands to the kinect
is slow as well. moving up or down by 3 with every command is just ridiculous in my opinion. along with the fact that i have to literally yell at the kinect during nighttime which isn't discreet at 2 or 3 in the morning. i didn't want to have another remote
control alongside my xbox one controller. but if its to get fast and precise volume controls along with a slightly better tv one guide experience. then i don't see the $25 being a waste. everyone is going to rant and rave about what their preference is and
thankfully microsoft is offering the alternatives for ppl to choose. with that being said i have already preordered the media remote along with the xbox one stereo headset which includes the headset adapter. then all i will need is the digital download of
titan fall to be released and it'll be the most perfect bday gift to myself ever. i never thought id be this excited for my bday which falls on a sunday two days before titan fall launches! sorry for my over excitement.

Once using Smartglass with your X1, once it's open, check the box in settings to not close app while in use. That way it's ready at all times without unlocking opening app everytime you wish to pause rewind or play. Just a tip.

This is a good idea, this media remote will boost sales, and is just another check in the X1's favor. My question is, can I use it as a controller also?

Not necessarily for the games, but I'm sure it'll work with the apps & other things.

Definitely a good alternative, I have the Harmony Ultimate which allows for the same control. Since the Harmony doesn't support the PS4, I do all my Blu-ray, Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon viewing on the XOne as I don't like using the controller for media. Now
if the XONe just got Crunchyroll ...

OK GG I hope you do understand the remote DOES NOT replace the kinect but is actually A PSRT OF THE kinect.... you press channel up on the remote...the signal goes to the Kinect... the Kinect then send that signal using the built in IR to the cable box/tv
