The NEW Friends Tab

So, my Xbox One home screen received an update today as part of the Update Preview program (currently 1408) and I am now part of the selective audience that has access to the new friends tab, or section, on the home screen.

Personally, it really doesn't add all of that much, IMO. It moves the friends menu that's usually on the left of the homescreen (next to your pins) and moves it over to the right side (in beatween the features secion and the store) and updates it with a live
"feed" showing your friends, gamerscore, etc. In addition, they've also added a small section that shows how many of your friends are playing which games. If you click on a game there, it takes you to that games info screen. Finally, they've also added in
an Xbox One-exclusive leaderboard that allows you to compare your gamerscore and achievements next to those of your friends. Frankly, I find this next to useless personally, because I'm #54 on my own leaderboard based upon the friends that I have and am not
looking to "beat" anyone's high gamerscore. Still, it's there for those of you who may want to compete against one another using gamerscore.

So, for those of you who are also fortunately enough to see this new friends tab, what's your take on it?

Friends Tab

I'm not a part of this "preview program" some peps are talking about. I saw on Xbox's YouTube a video saying the September Update is already out! I logged on my Xbox 1 since it's Friday evening for me, and their was a Console Update. Just finished it, but
I don't see the extra Friends pane on the main Dashboard Screen. It's just Pins, Home, and Store. Media Player works well viewed pics from my USB yay Xbox 1 is doing more.... things which Xbox 360 can do.

Read the preview announcements. This is normal and nothing is wrong with your system. It's unavailable at the moment for all users.

 

Is this the correct place to post this? Isn't there a preview forums for the " selective audience" to discuss the program?

 

Sure, I suppose, but this also gives people who aren't in the preview program a chance to say what they think about it.

 

Tuesday 5 August 11:24 pm for me on my Xbox 1 right now. No Update available yet according to my Dashboard.

OS version 6.2.11274.0 (xb_rel_1407.140703-1704) fre. I even went into Settings, System (no update available), and Console info. I'll check again before going to bed tomorrow night.

What I've heard is that the Dashboard (when updated) will tell you WHEN offline friends were last online (eg 2 hours ago, 3 days ago) instead of just saying, you know..."offline". I posted feedback on this on the official site and its got 90 votes which
was more than I was expecting. This is an Xbox 1 discussion area.

 

^^ You arent in the preview program so you wouldnt see the new Friends tab. Its only available in 1408, and will remain in extended beta even after 1408 is publically released.

 

I kind of like the new look. It's easy access to what my friends are doing and now I have an urge to go achievement hunting solely to beat Scratch who it atop my leaderboard lol

 

Microsoft already showed it 3 weeks ago,host by Major Nelson.

I prefer before,only 3 big parts.

Pins,that i can manage.

Home,where all my stuffs are,easy to navigate with voice commands

And XBL marketplace....

I don't see the point to add a forth part with friends features which already excists in Home section.Kind of pointless.

Too bad that we can't disable these feature from dashboard....

 

Suits me more, as its one of my most commonly used sections but would be nice if we could add or remove sections, will check it out when I get back.

The battery thing is handy tho, its warned me twice now which was good, gave me chance to plug controller in during TF end and start game.

 

My battery's died 3x since the update & I've missed the notification twice already... :|

 

It looked fine in the video, but not that great now that I have it.

I think they should keep the tab there but the only thing we should see is our Favorites listed with what they are doing.

Mainly because that would be the quickest way to view who we want, Guide button, scroll right, boom, best friends.

All the other info, games & achievements of friends should be buried in next menu.
