The Long Dark (preview)

Okay, so I just finished playing my 1 hour preview of The Long Dark that is now available.

This game is scary!

...and yet, there are no monsters - no zombies, no mutants, no aliens... Nothing.

It's just you. Alone. In the wilderness. Trying to survive.

Well, I'm happy to say that during my 1 hour of play time, I survived. Although in that time I did nearly die from hunger, freezing, dehydration, 2 sprained ankles, and an attack by a bear... But I digress. This game is NOT easy. And it's incredibly slow.

Still, I did have some success. I managed to repair a hatchet, find a cabin with a bed and stove (and some food), cracked a safe to earn a winter coat, set a snare, create a fishing hook, and was in the process of exploring a logger's trailer that I found
when my time ran out.

This game is pretty cool overall despite its alpha-inherent issues (graphics aren't that great and the sound of the snow blowing all around you seems to stop or loop at times).

I highly recommend you try it - when you do, I'd like to hear about what you did in order to try to survive.

Ive played the preview when it 1st launched so cannot try it again now.

Watched @Mr Quint s videos on this, i love a survival game.

Hello guys , just bought this after playing the trial , just been attacked by a bear and died from blood loss , gonna start again , what difficulty is best to play on ?

So basically you played Farcry 4?

 

Unfortunately not my friend, Minecraft is as far as Iv gone lol pmsl [tag:Xbox]_One

 

It was surprisingly atmospheric, seems a cool little title, i'll keep my eye on it haha

 

So did/are you buying it which to me anyway means more than the positive review

 

Don't know yet - if anything I'm hoping they'll fix some of the bugs I saw. Depending on whether they do or not will largely affect whether I get it or not (as well as the initial price point, of course).

And Far Cry has villains and guns and elephants. This game has none of that (well, maybe the 2nd 1, but good luck keeping it stocked with ammo and in good condition from the elements).

 

A friend showed this to me because he knows I love zombie survival, but I wasn't very sure about this game. Definitely interested, but not dying to play it or anything.

 

Wen is it playable in europe?

Is it only available in the US?

Game preview ad pops up on my Xbox, however I'm not able to download the game or anything..

 

It's definitely available for the UK.

 

Spoke with support - seems that it's just not available in Denmark :-(
