Microsoft is requesting that I pay them $179.99 to repair my Xbox after it worked perfectly fine, and functioned perfectly, and then after an update happened, and my console rebooted, it proceeded to not display on my monitor, and the console had a low pitched
low frequency beep that occurred sequentially every other second, which persisted for about 30 seconds before the console turned off. Any attempts to turn the console back on will have the same thing happen. This is a white, 500GB Xbox One S console, of which
when it is plugged into power and an HDMI cable is plugged into HDMI Out into a compatible monitor or HDTV, turning the power of the Xbox One S console will make the Xbox Logo glow, the Startup sound will occur, but there will be no incoming signal to the
display, and the low pitched beeping will occur until the Xbox turns itself off after about 30 seconds. This only occured IMMEDIATELY after rebooting after an Xbox update.

According to Microsoft's support articles, if anybody is to have an issue with an Xbox not turning on or functioning after an Xbox Update, it is standard procedure for it to be sent in and have a repair scheduled. This apparently costs me $179.99, which
seeing as it is a discontinued 500GB of an older model of Xbox, is probably the exact value if not more than the console is worth. Furthermore, I am being charged money for a SOFTWARE UPDATE from the manufacturer of the device, which disabled my property.
As a computer hardware expert and computer and network security specialist, handling electronics and software is nothing new for me, and I handle everything like this extremely professionally, and as a Microsoft Insider and Xbox Insider, I am extremely disappointed
of how Microsoft is handling this situation. My loyalty to Microsoft is being stabbed in the back by an update that seems to only affect my console, and I'd like to know why. Was this a targeted attack on my own console by Microsoft? Was it hacked? Was there
no real update and somebody forced a false update that bricked my console?

For reference, my console did NOT have the latest Insider update, and had whatever current stable normal update is out, to my knowledge. I use my Xbox on the same monitor as my computer, and after turning off my computer, my display changed to my Xbox, which
was on, and the screen said that my Xbox was ready for an update. The update was installed, my console turned off, and never was able to turn back on, and cannot turn back on.

My Xbox One S console had an update, rebooted, and now cannot turn on again; how do I fix this? Any options that do not require me paying money would be excellent, as I just lost my job recently and do not have the money to afford repairing
a console that should be functioning perfectly. It is a machine, programmed to work a specific way, and do a specific function, which it is not. It is not my job to fix it, and is not my job to be the hardware specialist that should be determining the cause
of the problem, so this is extremely aggravating for me. I do not have the money, time, or resources to do my own repair, or investigate the issue myself, but am willing to do whatever anybody else that is more knowledgeable than me is telling me I should
    do.

I am not the expert here for this job. Cybersecurity and Network Security are my specialty, not video game hardware. Please, if anybody can tell me what I can do to fix this that would be excellent. I would love to play some Halo in my spare time, as it
is one of my only portals to a long lost childhood of happiness that I can escape to whenever I feel like it, and as it stands, Xbox is currently the only way to enjoy Halo, due to PC's long delay for it to come out on PC.

If anybody needs any more information that may help with the solution for this problem, I am more than happy to provide it.

Thank you very much for reading this and thank you everybody for your cooperation, understanding, and time.

    -Matt

Wouldn't replacing the hard drive be an option? It's not like I have warranty to void since I have to dish out $179.99 anyway. Seems to me like I can just replace it with a new formatted drive of the same capacity and manufacture, specifically designed for
the Xbox, and since this OS needs to be reinstalled anyway, wouldn't that just be cheaper to open the console, replace the drive, and install the OS to a fresh non-corrupt drive? No hard drive costs $179.99 except special high capacity high performance NAS
drives, which certainly are not in the Xbox One S. Hell I can buy a high performance solid state of the M.2 NVMe variety for $180.

Just because Microsoft puts T10 Torx screws in all their products doesn't mean there's "no way around getting your console repaired or getting an new console as a replacement" I've been a computer hardware specialist for
YEARS and I know that's some [Mod Removed - see Guidelines] to just take my money. If reinstalling the operating system via USB does not work, I don't see any problem with attempting a repair myself. I have revived motherboards, installed
security networks, refurbished power supplies, and even designed and produced my own PCB to work around broken tech for years. In all these cases I am attempting to fix an issue that I acknowledge, and have a full understanding of what I am doing and why I
am doing it. What happened to a piece of equipment, and what went wrong with it.

Problem becomes, what happened to the Xbox One S? I pressed the A button. That's it. I started an update, it finished, and never turned back on. How did my hard drive get affected? How could it have been previously corrupted?
This seems to me like a potential liability in the future, meaning it is prone to happen again. No equipment I use just fails for no reason. I want to know WHY this happened, to prevent it ever happening again. I like to keep potential errors as close to 0%
as possible. I pay top dollar for 99.99% reliability. I expect near perfection, and in the face of anything other than near perfect operational capacity I expect to know exactly why. I want someone to analyze every 1 and 0 until I get an answer. That is the
kind of support I expect from Microsoft.

Microsoft's very name is suppose to be the combination of "Microcomputer" and "Software". I would even donate my console to them for free so they can analyze what happened in order to have a more effective product. If I
had the support team at my fingertips, I would start an investigation immediately and make sure there is no problem ever again.

I expect 0 downtime, 100% perfection, always. It is a machine. It is programmed to work in a specific way, and nothing more, nothing less. Every variable is designed by its own nature to be controllable. I have no use for
technology I cannot control, and no use for a company that cannot even control its own software, or rely on their own hardware. I guess they'll always make a sub-standard piece of consumer equipment for the disparaged.

Troubleshooting attempts that I have made:

    -Rebooting the Xbox

-Connecting it to a different monitor or TV (I tried 17 different displays, 14 different HDMI cables, and 4 different adapters which vary between DisplayPort and VGA)

    -Using a different power cable

    -Connecting to different power sources

-Removing the power cable, waiting 10 seconds, and plugging it back in

-Turning on the console, pressing the power button for 10 seconds to turn it off, and turning it back on

Usually, a software-update can't damage the hardware of a console.

So most probably, your console's OS got corrupted during the update, and the console can't start from the corrupted system.

You can "reinstall" the system OS with this procedure here:

    https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/reset-factory-defaults-using-usb-flash-drive

Be aware, that this procedure resets your console to factory defaults, just as if you bought the console new. So you will have to download your profile and games again after the recovery.

If the recovery procedure outlined above fails, then it's possible that your internal hard drive had a corrupt sector before, and the new update was installed on the corrupt sector.

After restarting, the console couldn't read from that corrupt sector, and couldn't start the console properly, which makes it appear that the update is the culprit.

So it's not the update that damaged your console, but a previous (undetected) corruption caused a fault during the update, and rendered your console unable to boot.

If the USB update manages to detect the hard drive corruption and install "around" the defective sectors, your console can work again.

If however the hard drive is broken in such a way that the recovery method via USB doesn't work, then there is no way around getting your console repaired for 179$, or getting a new console as a replacement.

If you have tried all the troubleshooting steps as last resort you can try a factory reset. Mind you it will erase all data from your hard disc yet it will eliminate corrupted files from the last update.
