    The 'How' and 'Why' of Updating Your Controller


    Much like how your console will occasionally download updates to improve your experience, your controller can take updates too. This will enable and improve compatibility with the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter, which allows you to plug in a variety of
    headsets to chat and play. Each controller must take the updates individually, and one at a time - the updates are not stored in your Stereo Headset Adapter.

    To update, please follow these steps in order:

    1. Power on the console, sign in, and connect to Xbox Live.
    2. If you are prompted to install a console update, take care of that now.
    3. While at the home screen, plug the Stereo Headset Adapter into the controller.
    4. Plug the USB cable into the port on the side of the console, and then plug the small end of the cable into your controller.
    5. Instructions to install the controller update should appear. Follow the prompts on screen and do not unplug the USB cable. This can take a few minutes!
    6. The console will tell you when the controller update is complete. Go ahead and unplug, and enjoy!

    XBOX ONE Stereo Headset Static Problem....

    I just bought the Titanfall Atlas headset and when I go to follow the instructions on how to update my controller, it keeps giving me error there was a problem updating your controller. Someone help.

    How NOT to update your controller

    I did mine with the official battery pack in but that connects through a contact chip thing as oppose to the usual battery terminals so that could be why.

    I use rechargeable batteries but all i did was plug in the USB cord to the X1 with the headset plugged in the controller and it was done in a min....you have to have new batteries for it to work?

    You don't need new batteries but apparently it will not update with batteries in the controller. Don't know why but that's what I found.
