The Golf Club release date...

I do hope this turns out good. As mentioned TW went a bit ropey after 9 and they weirded out the putting soon after. I reckon a forum tourney would be great.

 

You got to remember two things with this game. One, there is not any pros in the game. So, if they did any mo-cap for it. The swings are based off non-professional golfers. And watch some local duffers at any country club.
They don't have the most beautiful swings in the world.

Secondly, the swing mechanics for this game are based off your feel of the analog stick. A power meter will not be included to see how hard/soft you are swinging. So, some of those unnatural looking swings could be players getting
to know this new system. As Jayadub probably could confirm. Going from a TW-like power and swing path type meter to nothing on the screen at all, will take some getting use to. Also, from day one. Everyone playing the game will be on the same level for
club distances. The only thing separating the best from the amateur. It will be how quickly you figure out percentage to different shots/conditions.

I see this game as more of a thinking player's game. Instead of grind out for the highest level and best gear in the game to win online or against friends. It will be who has the best feel for the game and who can executed a
variety of shots.

 

This is the first game that peaks my interest on the next gen (current gen now? ) consoles with Destiny coming up next. I'm being a bit picky but a few things I think should have been put in this game:

- better animation for golfers (I also think they look mechanical)

- tee box choices (white/blue/black)

- pin rotations for tournaments (day 1 / 2 / 3 / 4)

- a handicap system (they use a custom made ranking system based on GIR/FIR/Score etc)

- realistic ball drop options (I don't *think* they made those in at release)

These are a few little additions that would add a fair bit of variety to the same courses. I think even Links 2004 (original Xbox) had those in - and that game IMHO was an incredible golf game.

Now having said all that, it's likely way better than PowerStar golf which I had a hard time to stomach (playing at a friends house). I love golf games but that was too arcade. Eagerly waiting feedback on this one from the community.

I'm gonna be all over this , I even heard that gators may appear out of the water hazards , dunno if that's true but would be hilarious if they nick your ball or make a grab at your leg lol.

 

Wildlife in the game is hittable so watch out for deer, rabbits and birds. Not sure about the gators, lol.

GreyMittens has the right idea for additions that will make this game have more variety in the long run and we should see most of those at some point after release but not at release.

HBS already have plans to implement a handicap system and with the analog swing and the cone they use to track swing deviation people that use modified joysticks that enable them to swing straight every time will be removed from the leaderboards, though
how effective that will be remains to be seen.

I think there will be some other things to do with game play that the team is holding close until release. They have more than hinted at that over the last several weeks.

 

Well if it's not $60 I may have to get this over a few others I been thinking about.

 

I am excited, I think the last golf game i played was tiger woods pga tour 06 on gamecube. Powerstar golf is okay but it is not what i am looking for in a golf game.

 

Custom Hole Creation

Those are great ideas Grey. I think they will be very supportive of this game. In the video above you can see some of the options for variety in making a course. Near the end of the video, it shows the developer dropping in
some animals on the hole. Also, another video on their website that just went up. It was talking about possible whale sightings on the Links theme. So, it is not out of the question to see gators walking up out of the water.

I really want to like this game and hope it meets with praise. I don't know if the course creator will be available to console users or just PC. What is neat, however, is that courses created go to a central server and become available to console users
too. My fear becomes:

- Will there be a decent sort method or rankings for player courses

- People will be shooting -18 on 18 holes and to combat this courses will be made to look like an obstacle course rather than a golf course. Having a nice drive and then throwing a dart on the green only to have it hit a deer or a rabbit and go astray would
really irritate me. This whole hitting wildlife seems a bit screwy to me but let's see.

Regardless, it is good to see a golf game taking a slightly more serious approach and I hope this game endures.

To answer at least one of your concerns and show you some current scores on the PC build of the game.

From the tournament scores, I recognized a name from the TW community(TonyTurbo). From what I know of the scores he posted on TW, I would say with practice. Some people could score like this, but notice the difference between
each week of the tourneys. I think scoring will depend on the difficulty of each course/conditions that day. Since it has been said, that the conditions will be different throughout the day. And will be different from day to day, at least with regards to
the wind. There is another developed diary that talks about this.

As for the course designer, it sounds as it will be available across the board. Since they talk of each respective platforms' different policy on privacy and parental controls. To me, this points to console owners. Also, in
the video I posted earlier. You can see all controls are in the form of the Xbox controller. This doesn't mean the videos are from the X1. Because the controller can be used with the PC. But at the same time some of the videos could be early builds from
this console.

 

The first controllers that were supported on the PC were the wired/wireless 360 controllers, not mouse or keyboard. Mouse swing control (not 3 click) were added later. PS3 controller could be used but only with a program like motioninjoy.

The course designer will be available on all 3 platforms and as I said before cross platform course play will be available right from the start. The course designer tools were created with a game pad in mind so there is no inherent advantage in building
on the PC vs. the consoles.

The best way to remove any doubt or questions is to go to the HBS website and look at the developer diaries and the YouTube videos that are posted. The development process has been fairly transparent since the beginning and the team is really responsive
to questions and input from the community.

 

Boo! I just read on the golfclubgame forums that this game will not have a lobby / match making feature at launch. You will only be able to play with people on your friends list. How on earth can that not be in at release?! They are hoping to add that
in at a later date / patch. If it releases on the 25th, they better add that on the 26th!
