Thanks, Nilay. It's actually for a brand new laptop and so has never worked! I will try the Windows restore, though.

As all these above troubleshooting fails I'd suggest you a windows reset. Please restore or reset to the date when it was working fine.

Nilay here and I'm glad to answer your query today.

Try running the Win App Troubleshooter.

Go to Settings, then > "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot", Then click "Windows Store Apps" > "Run the troubleshooter".

Run CMD as Administrator, then type WSReset.exe, then press Enter.

Make sure both the Xbox and Gaming Services apps are up to date

Press the Start button on the taskbar, type store, and open the Microsoft Store app.

Select Library.

Under Updates & downloads, check if there are any updates available for the Xbox app or Gaming Services app. If an update is available, select Update.

Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and then select Settings.
On Windows 10, select Update & Security. On Windows 11, select Windows Update.
On the Windows Update page, select Check for updates to see if any updates are available including optional updates for your device.

Hope There will be a fix.

Thanks for the reply. I'm afraid that l've already tried that several times with no success. The only outstanding update is 'Gaming Services' and that repeatedly fails to update.
