The games on my external hard drive all moved to Ready to Install

I was able to play my games on my external hard drive yesterday, but then I had to take it out. (I share a console)

I tried to plug my HD into the console today and it recognized it. However, now my games are in the Ready to Install section rather than the Installed like they were yesterday.

What could have gone wrong?

Try restarting your Xbox with the HD plugged in. Otherwise check the storage on the HD and see whether or not its empty, if it isn't empty and is quite full, your games should still be there. I've also had this problem when plugging my HD into a friends
Xbox but the games where still there when I put it back in my Xbox, I don't really get what happened either.

I haven’t had an external hard drive plugged in to my console for a while, but that has happened to me in the past. Make sure to power down the console by holding the power button for 10 seconds, make sure the hard drive is not plugged in and then restart
the system. Once everything boots up, then plug the hard drive back in and see if that works.

I was having issued with my external seagate drive but in my case I had tripped over the power cord. I don't know if others are having issues with their drives being sensitive and fickle but yeah my xbox didn't recognize it as a drive anymore at that
point.

OP what does it show your hard drive space currently at? Does it still show however many TB as if it still sees the drive at all or no?

Im understand i havent had an issue like that but i have heard of it happening. What type of external drive do you have and how is it connected i assume you didnt make it your main drive? There are issues with some external drives on their stability and
speed issues.

Only thing i can suggest is turn off your xbox completely before connecting the external drive again?

If you have all of your games installed on an external USB hard drive, the quickest way is to just move that drive to the new console and all of the titles will be available on the new console.

Otherwise you will need to go to you games & app page on the new console, go to ready to install, and then pick to download & install the games you want on your new console's system. Outside of an external drive, there is no "quick" way to do this other
than downloading & reinstalling.
