The Future of HoloLens - Alternative to Handheld Consoles

At this moment in time, the HoloLens seems to be designed for use within the radius of your console, so, in the same room or house.

But, in the future, this could be expanded, it become an entirely wireless console, that could sync to your console at home via the internet.

Here's how I see it working:

- The HoloLens signs into your Xbox Profile

- Then it connects to Xbox's servers and syncs to your registered console

- Then you can play any game, wherever you want, from your HoloLens

So, you could be on a walk, and decide "I want to paly Minecraft here" and

A 4G capable wireless connection or higher would be needed of course, to support the bandwidth requirements.

Thoughts on ReCore?

Whilst I would support, and buy a 'handheld Xbox', I don't think it is at all needed. HoloLens could eventually become the new form of console, a non-handheld, portable version.

I see that it could work like this:

Of course, this would be much further down the line, but the technology to do this is there, to some degree. All we need is better wireless conenctions (4G is an option here) to support the bandwidth requirements at any point in the world.

Sounds good, IMO better than Oculus Rift. I won't be as hardcore as in your example (you are on a walk and play Minecraft) but playing some other titles, like Halo, outside the home seems to be really good idea.

 

Oh yeah. Not necessarily Minecraft on a walk, just the first example I had.

But there's tons of things you could - imagine crushing zombies as you walk the dog or something on Call of Duty, or flying a helicopter in Battlefield whilst sitting outside.

There's tons that could be done.

 

Totally agree, thats why I think Oculus won't be a big thing on Xbox. Hololens will be HUGE. Wondering only how much it will cost...

 

I would totally agree with you. Walking around your town and playing a game where ever you want. This could be the future of gaming.

 

Well, it could also give you a place on obituary page in local newspaper...

 

Wait till Nintendo comes up with similar technology, we'll see people walking the streets waving their arms around hahaha.
