The Evil Within Gameplay Footage

As far as I know, Bizarro, you can't embed videos anymore; you can only link to them, which you've already done (although there is a way to make it look better through the hyperlink option under rich formatting).

I've seen footage of Outlast and the key difference that I've seen (aside from the aforementioned 1st vs. 3rd-person persepective) is that in Outlast, you rely heavily on a video camera and its night-vision mode to see in the dark, which drains the battery
power rapidly. I haven't seen that in The Evil Within.

it's easy to make comparisons when overtly-simply things. I didn't realize it was a crime to take place in an asylum.

 

ughhh this is sinking to a childish level. Yeah....I would make a comparative reference to a game I haven't played. hehe Well, don't let it get you two in a tail spin. I was just pointing out what I saw as an alarming similarity between one hide-n-seek-blood-n-gore-asylum
game to another hide-n-seek-blood-n-gore-asylum game. We could split hairs all day long, but it's already boring me.

 

And here I was, thinking I could get a good argument. Aw poop.

this game has been in development for quite a few years :L

also they have nothing in comparison so get them glasses on ya sweetheart :L:L:L

Evil Within - Outlast

Combat - No combat

3rd Person - First person

Monsters - Physco people

Random AI patterns - All fixed horrors, same jumps every time

Replayability (from what we know so far) - Zero Replayability as its the same jump and scare tactics used

Somewhat open-linear world ( dunno how was said in an article what ever it means ) - Linear

I am not saying out last was bad, I loved it the first time around, after that it got boring

But then again it wasn't an AAA game so I got ever bang for my buck with that game

but too say these too are the same or that one ripped off the other is wrong

Thats like saying call of duty ripped off Rainbow Six

even those the only thing they have in common are that they are gun games everything else is quite different

 

You're absolutely right....the main characters have slightly different clothing. I didn't notice that before. Okay, I stand corrected. They aren't EXACTLY the same.

I still want to play it even if it will be like "Hmmm, didn't I just play this? Oh yes...when I played Outlast!" : )

 

Personally, I feel Amnesia is a lot more like Outlast(but more gamey). Although I'm assuming The Evil Within fits within the confines of a traditional Survival-horror title than either Amnesia or Outlast.

 

I'm about half way through Amnesia. I've been enjoying it up until the water-filled room...quite frustrating. I see much less similarity between Outlast/Amnesia than Outlast/Evil Within, but shrug. Outlast was definitely about survival in a horror type
setting, so I'm not sure what would make it more of a fit. Having no weapons in Outlast sure added to the feeling of desperation and helplessness. I would like to have a weapon, so that will be a good addition in EW. I hope it has a better ending too.

 

The only type of resource-management is the batteries. It's a brilliant take on the concept but that's all there really is too it and the pseudo-stealth elements aren't exactly game-changing.

The similarities with Amnesia is largely-game play based. Amnesia has the slight edge though because it has actual puzzles.

The lack of combat is a double-edge. Knowing that you can't fight implies there is a definite solution to enemies where as a game that allows you fight can be much more scarier because it will be your fault. Adding resource-management doubles that factor.
I found myself taken out of experience in Outlast when the enemy is awkwardly chopping me up because i *** up and couldn't do nothing about it. That and there is no penalty to dying but I would be surprised if The Evil Within has save points.

what I hope is that the genre evolves by taking cues form stealth genre. Amnesia and outlast are the stepping stones but they certainly aren't traditional in a gameplay sense that is typical of the genre. That itself isn't a bad thing but I played Lone Survivor
right after playing Outlast and hit me just how much I appreciate gamepaly over a thrill ride. Essentially, Outlast is The Walking Dead of the Survival-Horror genre: It precludes more intricate(or emergent) gameplay in favor of something else.

I agree with Azrael. I want it to be good, but the gameplay looked pretty awful in my opinion. I'll still check it out though. If I can trudge through Alone in the Dark, then surely this game can't be as bad.
