The Evil Within - First Impressions

Hey Doc. It's a different type of game.

You won't be able to stop yourself comparing it to "Alien: Isolation" if that's what you've just played.

When you hide in a closet and can't really move about with the same freedom you had with the Kinect, especially for peeping round corners, you'll find it frustrating.

But it's it's own game. The borders that really bugged me at the beginning... I don't really notice them now.

It's a decent "Resident Evil" style Survival Horror. It kind of reminds me of "Alan Wake" meets a really graphically polished version of "Deadly Premonition".

It's in a different enough vein from "Alien: Isolation" that while you might begrudge the differences at first, you'll start to appreciate them as the game goes on.

The black borders do the subtitles our anything else appear in them as I can manual zoom my tv to get rid of them

 

^ Yes mate the subs display in the border, not sure you'd want to zoom the display area though, the FOV is horrendous in this game. Really needs a patch to allow you to remove the borders and pull the camera back.

Borders were really intrusive at first because you're not used to them.

By Chapter 3 you won't even notice they are there.

 

You might not notice them but I do, an option to disable them would be most welcome.

 

The demo I played was about 8 chapters in. It was in an old mansion, the puzzles I referred to involved doors with locks that are unlocked in some bizarre ways.

 

I said it in the POS4 forum and I'll say it again here. Yuck. Not my kind of game. By all means though, you all enjoy

Despite your heightened sense of gaming awareness you'll probably not even notice they're still there at chapter 3.

You'll spend the first couple of chapters finding stuff to complain about and then you'll settle down and start to enjoy yourself.

 

Considering I'm on chapter 5 and still noticing them I doubt they'll suddenly disappear from view, as I said before you may well be able to ignore them. I can't.

 

You don't have to ignore them.

Just allow yourself to be immersed by the game.

Alas, there are no plans to remove these. Director's decision.

 

I'm really enjoying this story is a bit hit and miss but other than that it reminds me of the good old days of Survival horror will keep me going till resident evil and fingers cross silent hills but if not I'm nicking my mates ps4
