I don't received the original Dark Souls code

I purchased the pre-order digital DARK SOULS III but dont received the message with code of the original dark souls.

 

My copy arrived on Saturday so I've had a bit of time with it and have to say the magic is complete crap in this game, cast times are glacial and the scaling is just pathetic. Loved hexing/sorcery in SotFS but it's barely viable in this game. That said I'm
enjoying my STR build and the game in general, hopefully they address the magic issues soon enough.

 

I'm glad they didn't make magic the best way to approach the game. Spells made the previous games way too easy for the most part. Melee is where it's at, has always been for me <3

 

Magic has never been a good build if you're trying to play as a pure caster but especially in III it's not a bad springboard for a Dex build. The magic is useful for range and you can pick up the Uchighatana pretty early on and start pouring into Dex.

 

I agree with Sipuli91 100%. Other than melee I would mess around with miracles a little bit and I would dabble in pyromancy here and there but that's it.

 

You can easy mode any Souls game with melee just as with magic, my point is that magic isn't viable at all.

 

People said that in "Dark Souls 2" if you were going to be a Sorcerer, then you just tanked it through the early game until you got to mid level and then re-speced your character to be a caster with access to all the killer spells.

Do the higher level spells not really pack as much of a punch as the previous game?

 

It's the return in investment that's broken, having to pump 50 points into Int before scaling is worth a *** is a ridiculous amount. I like playing glass cannon builds as a pure Sorcerer but due to the woeful cast speeds that hard cap at 25 dex, glacial
casting animations coupled with the Int investment being worthless for a ton of your playtime it means I'm a glass peashooter.

It would be more tolerable if inherent magic weapons scaled with Int normally but they don't, they act the same as spell scaling. I have no problems playing melee builds, I enjoy them but the game basically punishes you if you choose otherwise.

 

I've tested using a pure caster in the DS3 early game, and so far it simply isn't viable. If you're going to run a mage, you'll need to pump some points into str/dex for good weapons and shields, and then divide your time between taking out mob enemies
with melee, and saving your spells for big enemies that can cause you grief (like those guys who will chuck giant stew pots at you in the undead settlement). Also, healing can be an issue in this game, so running a pyromancer might actually be a better trade
off, since it allows you to equip one good healing spell, then a bunch of fireballs, etc.

I've only reached the Catacombs and I've got like 18 hrs played already. This will be my slowest ever playthrough in Souls at this rate Then again, I already have a list of all the items I need to acquire for the achievements and I'm trying my best to
get a lot of them before "the point of no return" when you just have to progress to NG+...

 

Do the achievements look difficult or are there a lot of missable ones if you do them out of order?

 

It doesn't seem like there are really that difficult achievements, just annoying and time consuming. First of all, you need to be on NG++ to get the last rings and in total there are 107 of them so I hope you enjoy collecting them Then there will be lots
of covenant grinding for spells and rings. Also, seems like there are 3 different endings so definitely will take more time than 100% in the first one. (No idea how slow it is to complete 2/Scholar since I never bothered trying so can't compare to that one).
You can most definitely miss achievements if you don't know anything about the NPC questlines and then there are the missable bosses as well.
