TBH stress testing in an office is never going to be the same as a stress test in a live environment, and getting a good launch is vital, while I agree this is a great promotional tool, even though no one is allowed to post, they certainly are talking about
it.

Either way IMO its a win win, we get a little more insite, and they get to test elements in a way you can't do in an office, or with paid personel.

Ubi do not stress test or alpha or beta test there games in an office, they do it over Live and through a company that pays it testers who are under a very strict NDA.

Tzar the hype comes from people talking about it amongst themselves and all the online articles about the "Alpha" test which generates interest in the game (as Enen says above) especially from those who are interested but don't get into the closed test.
Its a good ploy in my opinion.

Its still an office environment, it isn't the same or scaled anything like this alpha, there is simply no way they can pay 10,000's of thousands of people to test a game, and that's whats going to break the game.

I still disagree, while I accept they is game testing well before now, releasing what they call an "Alpha" which clearly isn't, it does provide a test.

If this wasn't the case there would be fewer issues on release of other games.

As for stress testing best way to do that is what Bungie did with Destiny. Just open it for everyone, no better way to see.

Some more details.

The beta for December that was supposed to be out now has been replaced by this Alpha.

The beta is now slated for early 2016 with launch March 8, 2016.

Does no one else not feel this might have some link to MS? and the alpha is a perk for MS hence the alpha, (Xbox get it first), then the everyone gets the beta, and expect maybe a little Xbox exclusive content at launch?

(I would like to see exclusive content for all platforms, but thats just me)

I really do not care for exclusive content on any platform although I understand why they do it. But the content is just not going to be important to the main game, really cannot be, and there should be sufficient content.

As for this Alpha I cannot say anything other than it made me actually want to keep my order and I am looking forward to playing the full game now.

don't see why NDA's are such an oddity, 20 years ago sure, but that was when they really only had to worry about a video game magazine giving a bad review, i believe that is a smart thing for them to do nowadays, without it, the internet could greatly influence
if a game sells well or not, which could be a major hit to a studio/developer/investors.

so trying to compare modern game development and publishing to what it was decades ago will not work, it is a major industry bringing in something like 90 BILLION dollars this year alone, and you think that these companies/investors are going to spend millions
on development only to take the risk of having some internet troll affect how the game sells?

the sooner people understand that the gaming industry is going to evolve, regardless if they want it to or not, the better off everyone will be, then maybe we can get back to what gaming is all about instead of bickering about who has the most P.
