Hopefully this is good which will lead onto Wildlands also being half decent

You know your hobby is pathetic when companies that make said hobby put master copies in vaults and issue NDA's like its some national secret. VIDEO GAMES PEOPLE have we forgotten what it is we do ? NDA's for video games, there's red flag number one!

I hate to be that guy, but I remember when games were made by gamers for gamers and it was a form of art, They were excited to share what progress they made with us gamers and looked forward to feedback and sharing more .Now its nothing but corporate games
and absurd policies and business practices. I knew once the corporations got a sniff of the potential money this industry could make it was all over for us gamers/consumers. Whether you want to admit or not , we as the consumers are last beyond anything else.
One of the great things with capitalism is that we the buyers always come out on top, but with the gaming industry now we are the villains and are treated as such. Things like exclusives and timed content, seems like we are always getting punished for buying
something instead of prospering.

You know what ? i say talk about it, spread the word if you choose, brings these high and mighty companies down a few pegs. NDA's ? lol yea ok ! Make a unaffiliated gametag and talk about it all you want. Dont buy in to this horrible lame as hell and utterly
embarrassing policy. NDA's on video games hahah I have truly seen everything.

 

Enen seems a bit confused and seems to think I'm suggesting people are breaking an NDA here by discussing "The Division" Alpha.

I'm not suggesting they are. I just pointed out that some other companies take it really seriously and like Deadfall says it can seem a little over-dramatic.

Mind you it's not always a small matter.

In the case of Taldren and the "Starfleet Command" series when they gave the code for a new build to established Community Modders (the bare bones version of the game had been rushed to release at the same time as "Nemesis"... the game was so rushed there
were Cardassian Ship Models in the game that weren't even used so Modding really brought that game to life) there was a massive debacle when it was discovered one of them had released the latest version of his MOD including that new build that was supposed
to be released later as an official update.

Not that you could tell any real difference by playing. But the end result was Taldren ceased trading... the servers were pulled and the Community simply ceased to be.

The "Division" is starting to look a bit interesting. It's nice that this Alpha is coming out to generate a little interest as well since the project has been put back some.

Still it's better to release with everything working than rush it and give people a bad experience.

 

don't see why NDA's are such an oddity, 20 years ago sure, but that was when they really only had to worry about a video game magazine giving a bad review, i believe that is a smart thing for them to do nowadays, without it, the internet could greatly influence
if a game sells well or not, which could be a major hit to a studio/developer/investors.

so trying to compare modern game development and publishing to what it was decades ago will not work, it is a major industry bringing in something like 90 BILLION dollars this year alone, and you think that these companies/investors are going to spend millions
on development only to take the risk of having some internet troll affect how the game sells?

the sooner people understand that the gaming industry is going to evolve, regardless if they want it to or not, the better off everyone will be, then maybe we can get back to what gaming is all about instead of bickering about who has the most P.

negative, i'm referring to a person that would have access to an alpha or beta that would be under an NDA, and then spouting trash about the game that could influence a gamer to not buy the game.

as an example, a while ago, someone leaked a off screen video of a character doing dodge rolls in The Division, and there were people going on about how bad the game looked and other ridiculous rants.

 

Ahh ok, in the context I didnt think you were, but if you read my reply before this one you will see that my reading comp is ....in need of a patch!

 

I suspect this alpha test" is more of a marketing tool than anything else, builds a buzz for the game.

 

Hum....Marketing. tool is more. when a. publisher. call a. stress test a beta and release the. game. two. weeks. after....

The Division. should. come in march,doing beta tests 4 months. before launch seems. legit....Also with NDA there isn't much to talk about or advertise...The hype will (re) start in february....

 

I'd say Genchy hit it right on the head.

In this case it's a good thing.

Instead of moaning about "The Division"'s release date being pushed back we're talking about the Alpha.

It's caused me to take a closer look at the game and what looked like "just another shooter" might actually be different enough to warrant paying attention to.

 

Tzar Ubi have already "stress tested" this game over Live for months, same as they do with all their games using paid testers. Unless testers in this alpha are submitting detailed test reports after each play session its nothing more than a closed game
session designed to increase hype for the game through press releases and user talking up amongst friends.

 

Gench is exactly right - this may say 'Alpha' on screen but its certainly more of a PR exercise to get people talking.

Had great fun playing it and look forward to the 'Beta' in Jan before release in March. I will be pre ordering since playing....
