Activision switches to three year dev cycle, Sledgehammer takes the wheel

Sledgehammer Games - home to Dead Space creators Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey - will develop this year's "highly innovative" Call of Duty, Activision has announced in its Q4 2013 earnings call.

Rather shockingly, the publisher has also revealed that three developers will work on Call of Duty games in tandem from this point on - Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Sledgehammer. Activision will still release a Call of Duty game every year, which means that
each studio will have three years to develop a game.

No more World War Two it's been done too much lol I'd like a space type one, I know this has been done lots as well lol

 

I hope with 3 devs teams,to see some improvements and new things....The franchise really needs some fresh ideas.....

 

This could be a good thing. Means sledgehammer can do there own thing there own story maybe they will bring us a world war game

 

A WW II COD,a modern COD and a COD in the futur....

 

I'd like to see a COD go back to World War 2.

 

I don't think this is a good move, well it could be but I doubt it.

Let me try and explain, at present both developers each operate a separate core infrastructure, they use different engines, they have different stats, one does have theatre, they focus on esports differently, the list goes on.

Now the user expects the next version to be an improvement on the last, and that simply doesn't happen, it may or may not be an improvement on the version from that developer, but they simply don't complement each other and there is the problem.

IMO i think they would be getting in a core developer, to develop the main system for ever, and then maybe get other developers to develop the games.

this now raises more questions and doesn't offer any answers, how long have they been developing it, who's infrastructure are they using, what time will the game be based at.

I certainly won't be buy it at launch, not because its a new developer but because I am so disillusioned with the whole franchise, and there are at least 3 titles which I am interested in over COD.

I would love to see a WWW2, modern and futuristic 3 year cycle. This whole semi-futuristic every year for the past 3 years has gotten a little old. This is a big reason Ghosts seems stale to people. We really need to go back to WW2. It is the best 'war'
era. I hope the next release isn't modern...As much as I love modern warfare that would be 4 modern titles in a row. I also hope they are smart enough not to go into the future. They would be going toe to toe with the COD 4 developers with their new franchise
titanfall....don't forget about Destiny and Halo one. Not to mention Star Wars Battlefront, Watchdogs and Gears 4. If it were up to me COD would stay out of the future.

Wasn't the last Dead Space littered with an enormity of micro transactions? Weapons, armor, schematics, and so forth. Hope that's not the case here...

 

COD has been going season pass plus micro transactions for a while.

 

I've more or less always enjoyed the campaign in the COD series ( Really enjoyed the last one )

MP, why it can still be fun in short burst, I've lost any real interest in it now. For me to possibly get back into it they would have to change it totally but I can't see that happening as I believe too many out there will buy it as it is now.

I'm not knocking people for it, we all buy/play what we enjoy but from my point of view what to the developers do? Make a game that they know will sell and just add a few tweaks here and there or use up more time and make something totally new but risk losing
a lot of the die hard COD fans.

 

im gobsmacked,ghosts a meant to be the best cod everrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!,well my thoughts go to LP3 and what a abysmal thing that was,but DS1 and DS2 were good cant deny that,baffled now so ghosts was just a money maker?for this next instalment?,so the last
dlc will land for ghosts and new cod will arrive?

[/quote]I have to admit I don't play COD for the campaign, infact I have played it since COD 4, and I have never completed a campaign, I have done bits but certainly nothing to write home about, but all the people I play with that do play the campaign say
ghosts is very good and some real thought has gone into it.

 

I can imaginer this in fact leaving one of the current developers in a position to make their last CoD game and move on. Both Infinity Ward and Treyarch have been doing Call of Duty for a long time and I personally don't see Call of Duty as a game worth
buying in 6 years time.

I would make a lot of sense, in my opinion for one of the two to release their last games in the series for 2015 or 2016, pack their bags and move on to bigger and better things.
