Activision switches to three year dev cycle, Sledgehammer takes the wheel

Sledgehammer Games - home to Dead Space creators Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey - will develop this year's "highly innovative" Call of Duty, Activision has announced in its Q4 2013 earnings call.

Rather shockingly, the publisher has also revealed that three developers will work on Call of Duty games in tandem from this point on - Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Sledgehammer. Activision will still release a Call of Duty game every year, which means that
each studio will have three years to develop a game.

I hope the go back to world war setting for the next cod game, The multiplayer just seems to be getting worse and worse each year since after cod 4 and mw2, Only zombies and extinction mode keep me interested at the moment with the series.

 

Sledgehammer have been involved with CoD for a while.... you'd be surprised just how many studios (around 10 or so) have worked on the last couple of titles in the franchise (Activision don't like people to know this though)

 

A 3 year cycle could be good.

An extra to work on any game should see some major improvements.

 

If the difference between 30FPS and 60FPS is night and day then the extra 365 days of development should procude a spectacle of epic proportions with better graphics than real life.



So are they going Infinity Ward (Sledghammer & Co), then Treyarch then Visceral then rinse and repeat to achieve this?

 

I'm not too fussed about the MP, campaign, I'd like to see it go back to World War 2.

 

So a three-year development cycle to improve quality, but there's no way they're abandoning their moneyspinning model of releasing annually...

 

No more World War Two it's been done too much lol I'd like a space type one, I know this has been done lots as well lol

 

Wasn't the first Call Of Duty Sledgehammer games helped with Modern Warfare 3?

Maybe back to the days or Lord Nelson, might work?

 

Sounds better lol just been so many ww2 games on the 360

 

Maybe a Police theme.........oh hang on!

 

I would like to see the return of 'War' playmode, only had it on World at war but was my favourite mode.
