    You can't use an Xbox Gift Card to purchase xbox Live.

    there is a seperate xbox live card for that.

    If you are using a pre paid Visa gift card you may run into issues. My best advice, would be to purchase a code for an Xbox Live membership, directly from a reputable retailer.

    It depends on the card. Xbox does not usually take refillable cards as a payment method for Xbox Live. Your best bet may be to purchase a Live membership from your local retailer.
