The Basics- Destiny

Hi,

I am buying destiny and xbox live gold in a couple of days just so I wont be completely New and have no idea whats going on in destiny would someone please explain the basics of: Raids and strikes and how they work, How the currency system works.

If you could I would really appreciate it

Before doing any Next Gen console it is time that you do the basics right! How can it be possible that after 10 years you still cannot deliver a working functionality to change the language of the dashboard?? This is absolutly redicolous and idiotic!

Makes me want to sell my Xbox.

IMO, in the 21sth century language has nothing to do with local/country content; For example I live in Switzerland and here there are 3 national languages, but for some obscure reason my Xbox dashboard is half in German and half in Italian. Said this why
can't I purchase games in English? English is spoken in many countries around the world and all these countries have different laws and distribution rights.

And still, if I want to have my menu in Japanese this would be possible in all IT systems except the Xbox!

Don't invent excuses for something Xbox/microsoft does not want to or cannot solve.

The whole game is basic and lacklustre, give it a miss...

 

Yeah save your money. If you must play it go to Redbox and rent it for a dollar.

 

Now now, if they guy wants to waste his money who are we to dissuade him? Seriously though rent it or get a better game to utilize your new Gold membership.

 

Basically a strike is where you shoot things and try to stay alive, a raid is a little different, you have to shoot more things and try to stay alive harder.

Guys I know the games story sux but its pvp is really good and fun so don't hate. Guys jeeze golds not just for destiny im gona use gold on Halo 4 Halo Reach Borderlands 2 Borderlands the pre sequal

 

Just a heads up...Destiny's PVP is broken as hell. Get a Shotgun, Suros Regime and a Fusion rifle. You can dominate with the starter gun in PVP. Seriously. You already have the better shoot & loot: Borderlands 2 & the Preseq.

So on to your actual questions:

Okay, In Destiny, a Strike you get teamed up with 2 other randoms, unless you already have a 3 man team put together. It's basically the boss-fight for each planet. There's a "Weekly" Strike you can do solo, but it's been tweaked to make it nearly impossible
to solo it, but it's possible. You have to bring your own team to the Weekly. You can get different levels of gear and upgrade materials. You'll do these to get from level 20 to level 27/28-ish. Then it's on to the raid-

Raids you have to gather 6 people for a team. No matchmaking, you have to do it yourself (sucks). It's a 2 or 3 part mission where you have to fight a ridiculously OP boss that can teleport you around, get the relic and some other stuff. This will get you
the currently best gear...eventually.

Money: You get Glimmer from pretty much anything. That's your main money, it's plentiful and after a few days of playing is pretty useless. Then there's marks. Once you hit level 20, you get Vanguard marks from doing Patrol missions, Bounties, Strike Playlist,Daily
Heroic & Weekly Strikes ( I think from the Nightfall strikes too) and farming materials. Crucible marks come from playing the PVP part. (ew) You get 2 if you lose, 3 if you win. You can earn 100 Vanguard & 100 Crucible Marks per week. (resets on Tuesdays).
These you can use to buy Legendary weapons & Armor from the various Vanguards and if you want Factions. You may also receive these weapons/armor from playing Crucible and Random drops from Strikes.

Strange Coins & Motes of light- Strange coins you need to buy from Xur, he sells Exotic weapons & armor and a couple of Sparrow upgrades. You can get them from Weekly strikes, and random drops. Motes of light show up every time you would have leveled up
after lvl 20. Sometimes they show up as random drops too.

I try to be pretty open minded about games, but Destiny ranks as the biggest disappointment of the year. The first thing I'll warn you about is, Destiny essentially has no single player mode. It presents the illusion of one, but essentially the "story
missions" are just a brief, shallow introduction to game mechanics.

The game has no matchmaking for its high level content, such as Daily and Weekly "heroic" missions, Nightfall missions, and Raids. If you don't have at least 2, and preferably 5, very good friends to play with, you'll end up hating this game in time. I
enjoyed it for a while, playing with friends, but it ends up being the worst grind I've ever experienced. The endgame is a huge fail, and even if you're lucky to get some resolution with the DLC, that will cost you another $120 (4 small packs @$80 each and
another large expansion for $40).

A small core of the community does like Destiny (no idea what they see in it), and you might be one of them. I hope you don't end up wasting your money like so many of us did.

Hey JJ you're in for a treat.

"Destiny" is one of the best games on the ONE and is a strong condenter for Game Of The Year 2015.

First and foremost it's a beautiful polished game that looks fantastic throughout with great attention to detail. It's an interplanetary adventure and you'll explore new planets as you play through the story of the game.

The story of the game is pretty good too, taking you on an interplanetary adventure. The only problem is that for some people... their experience of "Destiny"'s story was yapping about Hookah's in an XBox LIVE Party while playing the game. So for them
the story seems a little less elaborate because it's not really what they were concentrating on when they were playing.

As you progress in the story you'll find better weapons and increase your characters level which leads to new abilities.

Eventually you'll hit level 20 and at this point the only way to increase your level is to wear armour that has has "Light" in it.

You'll reallise that your weapons can be upgraded with material found on the different planets. Same for your armour. One thing to watch out for is discovering a new piece of armour that looks lower than your current set... but can actually be upgraded
to be higher than your current set.

Once you're finished with the story (or even while you're playing through if your level is high enough) you can do "Strikes", "Multiplayer" and "Raids".

Strikes get you reputation points to spend on fancy stuff. You have to do a lot of them. You can do them with friends or the game will put you in a group.

Multiplayer does what it says on the tin.

"Raids" are for the highest level players. You will have to find 5 other friends to do them with and they offer the best rewards.

The game is very truthful about loot.

Common stuff is common. Rare stuff is rare. Legendary is very rare and Exotic is even rarer than that.

So if the game is so amazing... how come there are people saying that it's bad or they hate it?

Well it would be easy to simply say these people are stupid, don't like to try, bitter that they can't top the Multiplayer Leaderboards, are upset because the game doesn't hand you everything on a plate just for showing up and going through the motions like
"COD" for example...

But more realistically "COD" is a great game but not everyone likes it. "Skyrim" is a great game but some people disliked it. It's not to everyone's taste and just because someoen does't like it shouldn't mean that said person is a bit of a dummy.

It's worth mentioning that more than a few peopel who complain that the game isn't long enough do not actually realise just how much time they've actually spent playing "Destiny" and it's true what they say... "Time flies when you're having fun".

So you're taking part in a great game with an excellent Community and joining at a great time too as the first of the Expansions is being released next Tuesday.

Destiny is not a strong contender for GOTY. Thats just foolish. And the story to Destiny was forgettable at best.

 

Because the guiy who paid money for an Ninja Turtle Outfit for his avatar and believed that you could not pass beyond level 20 in "Destiny" said so.

I look forwards to you taking a break from the Forums to compose many angry worded letters to any gaming website that has the audacity to cross you and heap further praise upon this great game.
