The 12am/ 3am activation

What makes PDT the entire NA nation? Why would someone not just get a physical copy and be at the store and back before 3? Where is the incentive to go digital? It's bad enough releases are at the beginning of a work week. I canceled my physical copy because
I felt I didn't need to have a physical copy bad enough to bang elbows with mobs of people. This absolutely makes no sense. Many people in my zone will be playing this 2 hours before the digital purchasers in my zone are permitted to? Thanks for giving us
the shaft..and to think that Microsoft would give us incentive to invest in their digital download dream.

What time does the DLC go live?

3am eastern. 12am Pacific.

 

So that's why the countdown ends at 3AM EST

because the countdown timer ends 12am pst, for me it will be 2am cst and you 3am est

 

I mean, why preload at all? Just make it available to download at 12am I'll get done downloading it by 3am anyway.

 

Its a total middle finger to us on the east coast. I have work tomorrow early and a daughter to take care of tonight and tomorrow, My open window is 10pm to 2am. Yup, so pre downloading sounded good, missed the small print. Its stupid I "Pre-downloaded"
just to have to wait 3 extra fing hours to play something everyone else has been playing in my state since midnight (Minus install time for them). I'm never buying digital again, and i hate disks. MS is being tools on this.

 

Too right. I guess I'll just to to bed early tonight after all...unbelievable.

 

While I understand the aggravation since I live in CST, you also have to look at it from the standpoint of MS and the release dates. If they were allowing the download at 12:01 AM in whatever time zone the console is set to, then everyone would set their
console to EST. While it is inconvenient for some of us, it makes sense for MS to make sure they are not violating the street dates without having to monitor every download and ISP.

 

Apparently changing TZ doesn't work people were posting on some other message boards about switching to New Zealand's time zone to get early access and that didn't work. Also think the whole one TZ unlock for the whole U.S. sucks. The principle of it is
crappy, doesn't effect me much because by midnight I'd be a zombie but how hard would it be to set things up for the individual time zones grrr.

 

Are you kidding me? That old "clock forward" trick had been patched a long time ago. You can't just clock your console forward, they're able to see where your ISP is located. It's all automated these days. Nobody is in the server room watching where everyone
is connecting from. Programs/ applications do that. You can't tell me their Pre-load installers can't be made to verify your time zone/ ISP location and unlock accordingly. Go into Google and type in "what's my ip?" and you'll find that everything can determine
your location these days. It's a standard function...in everything. You leave paper trailer all over the place nowadays.

 

I have to agree. I want to go digital but I do not want to wait for PST since I live in central time zone. Microsoft needs to change this.

 

I have a question about all this. I too canceled my preorder hoping to preload the gam and save some time and get to playing it earlier. I have a copy I am picking up or a friend at midnight release. since mine is preloaded if I grab his gam and install
it real quick is I going to mess with my preload? I an see it causing an issue don't want to have to delete and re download the game later because I have a hardy copy install.

 

You don't really believe that MS is going to take the time to verify all of the ISPs or waste resources with programs to do so, do you? It is far more logical to set a particular time that does not violate the street date and to make it available then. MS
was always upfront about when the digital versions would be available. If that wait was to much, then there was always the option to pre-order a physical copy at a local retailer with a vast number of them providing a midnight launch. Does it suck to have
to wait for something that you are excited about; sure it does. Is this couple of hours enough of an issue for a company to risk violating release dates or an added expense/effort; not at all.

 

Some people will whine and cry about anything. They told you it would be released pacific time when you bought it. If you don't like it then why would you buy it? This isnt Burger King... not everything is your way. Act like you are old enough to play the
game. A few hours of waiting isnt going to kill you.

 

Just because someone doesn't like something it isn't automatically a deal breaker, and whats wrong with people complaining about something they don't like?

Sidenote - MotherFlunker I believe you might have found a work around, it shouldn't mess up your preload because rather it is from a download or a disc its the same game info. Worst case scenario you can only play when the disc is in before 12 PST best case
scenario you unlock your game a few hours early might as well give it a try.

 

Nemesis there is a difference between voicing an opinion and all out bellyaching and being unreasonable. If it wasnt a deal breaker then the terms of the deal were accepted and there is nothing left to complain about. This whole thread is nothing more than
people complaining because they can't have everything they want the way they want it. They should feel lucky to be able to preinstall and prepurchase the game to begin with because it was not originally planned to be offered according to bungie. It has been
pointed out in this thread and others like it that there were plenty of other options.
