"That's AMAZING! Microsoft went all out..."

These were the exact words that left my girlfriends lips after putting on a 15 minute demo of voice and gesture controls. She was floored that you could play games, Skype, Snap different apps, control the T.V. volume (Check listings and then jump to them.),
etc., just by talking or using your hands. While voice controls work flawlessly for me, I was surprised the gestures worked 100% for her and I; must have got improved by the update?

Couldn't give an answer on the other system since I haven't purchased the camera.

After telling her the X1 could be used as a tax write-off for her business, I do believe she'll have one in the near future.

I never wanted the Kinect, though find it "necessary" now. She wouldn't even entertain the idea of having one in her house until watching/participating in the little demo I put on. My brother, after a few Skype sessions, is considering buying a X1...he does
    not game at all.

How many others have changed their tune on Kinect, or got some of their family or friends interested in it?

    Peace, J.R.

    :)

I've been slowly dipping the water, last few days i have felt overly lazy and actually used voice commands to get to the apps i wanted at the time upload/youtube etc it's gestures still a bit iffy for me and it has a nasty habbit of thinkin the back of my
pc chair is my hand lol

I'm still not massively swayed on it and have a long way to go to feel it necessary but i have definitely been giving it a bit more of a go now i am a bit more past the old always being watched and feelin a *** when i shout commands at it phase lol

Think i am still to set in the ways of my 360 navigation, always trying to middle button things etc lol

I had my doubts about it, but after I actually got it, I realized I was right.....the Kinect is useless and it should be buried with the ET cartridges. It really is a hunk of junk and it is totally not needed IMO.

I think the Kinect is the future just not really for gaming, Kinect only games suck. Where Kinect is going to boom is with VR and stuff like that.

Like Soldier says, I have a few recognition issues - 2 in fact.

First, I have a habit of sitting with my legs up in the chair. Whenever, I lean back and my legs come up, the sensor often thinks that 1 of my knees is my head, which can be annoying at times. I wasn't aware that my knees had eye, a nose, & a mouth... "That's AMAZING! Microsoft went all out..." :(

Second, I'm a twin who lives with his twin brother - we happen to look a lot alike. As a result of this, the sensor often thinks that I'm him and vice-versa, which causes quite a bit of frustration, signing out, and using the "the Kinect didn't recognize
me" function. Thankfully, it "appears" to be getting better, but it's a slow, on-going process.

I also often have trouble using voice commands to pause, rewind, etc. while watching movies because of how loud my TV usually is (my brother and I suffer from severe hearing loss, so it gets pretty loud). Up until a few days ago, we'd yell the commands
louder than the TV volume or mute it 1st in order to get it to work. The reason it works now is because my brother invested in the media remote, so we don't have to yell, mute, or turn on a controller 1st before issuing the desired command.

Those issues aside, the Kinect actually works very well, especially during quieter situations, like on the home screen (which is arguably where it's most useful). The gestures in video games are rather spot on too and suffer from virtually no lag whatsoever
to boot, so that's a plus, especially when compared to the Xbox 360's Kinect sensor.

Generally speaking, I've been impressed with the Kinect since the very beginning, and over time it's only gotten better, so minor gripes above aside, I think it's more than been worth it. "That's AMAZING! Microsoft went all out..." :)

As far as family goes though, my mother is nearing her 70s and won't even touch the thing... :|

I use it all the time with the controller in game, voice commands etc and never use the controller but use voice for watching videos and audio.

  10. I have definitely warmed to it lately, it's still useless when the kids are running round and prone to accepting random commands so not something I want to game with but for dash navigation and on off commands it does the job.

@bstn never realised you could use the mic for voice on ps il give it a go.

I had a conversation with my boss about voice commands and the features and apps at your disposal without having to touch anything, he went out and bought an Xbox One just so he could use Netflix, Hulu, and Xbox Video and musc. He said "the last time he
knew anything about a video game , there was a little yellow guy who ran around eating dots while being chased by ghosts". He saw a trailer for Tomb Raider in the store and claimed it "blew his mind". He is now attempting to play it. He's still learning how
to work the analog sticks, though.

You guys are just so thirsty for a fight get over it! my post was on topic and in response to the bolded out words. You are not the Xbox police if you don't like what I say debate the facts. But no... You never do that instead you just go off topic and try
    to make it personal.

And Dufful GS is not important for anything but it shows that I have played on Xbox for years so it makes your stupid comments about me being a fanboy just that stupid.

  15. @dufful considering the differences between your gs I think it's safe to say he has given more support to the xbox brand than you, unless you have another account with 40k on it of course.

Calling him a fanboy whether he is or not looks a bit silly coming from you.
