"That password didn't work"

I have been encountering some extremely annoying problems with logging into Xbox live. The first problem that I encountered was that my password was not being recognised, I typed it in and instantly received a "your email address and password weren't recognised"
error, so naturally I changed my password, logged in again, same error. I cleared my cache a dozen times, restarted my Xbox, and it seemed to finally work so I put in Assassins Creed and updated it, I got onto the main menu and suddenly I'm prompted to log
in AGAIN and this time my new password didn't work either, I finally decided that it must be a problem with a corrupted profile so I deleted my profile so I could redownload a new copy and lo and behold my password was not recognised. I know my email and password
are both functional as I can log into my account on the main website, so I'm now stuck with my profile deleted and the inability to redownload it due to the Xbox deciding my password won't work. Care to explain?

okay so this is my first time doing this.. but anyways, I downloaded my Xbox account onto a friends console, it all went smoothly until I reached the spot where it says "Sign in with your email and password?" The one about needing that info to check on
my Microsoft account and update the security on my Xbox profile. So I do, sign in with email as pass, but now it's saying that my email and password didnt work. Full message: "That email and password didn't work. Try again, or use your app password if you
set up two-step verification." I did that, but it's still not working! It's starting to frustrate me.. Please, any help would do!

Click on Security info, do you have two step verification enabled ? if so you would need to either generate an app password to use in place of your regular password or turn two step off.

Turns out I hadn't properly disabled the two-step verification and for some reason my account page didn't state wether it was or not. Never the less the problem has been dealt with and everything is now back up and running, thank you for suggesting to check
the two-step verification. Your help has been much appreciated.
